Guggenberger blanks Blades for Broncos' seventh straight victory

The Swift Current Broncos climbed out of eighth place in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference with their seventh straight win, a 3-0 defeat of the host Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night.

The Broncos got goals from Levi Nelson, Jesse Dudas, and Cody Eakin while outshooting the Blades 32-19. The Broncos have now taken 11 of a possible 12 points in six meetings between the two clubs this season including winning all three games over a recent five day span.

Mark Guggenberger earned his second shutout in three appearances with the Broncos, stopping all 29 shots he faced and improved his record to 3-0 as a Bronco and 4-2 overall.

Braden Holtby allowed three goals for the Blades on 32 shots to lower his record to 15-26-2-0.

The Broncos powerplay unit connected twice on six opportunities, while the penalty killing unit fought off four Blades man-advantages.

The Broncos improved to 30-20-0-5 and passed the Brandon Wheat Kings and Medicine Hat Tigers to move into sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Blades dropped to 18-31-3-2 and sit 10th in the Eastern Conference.

The two teams will meet for the fourth time in seven days on Tuesday at 7:30 at the Credit Union iplex.
