Thread: 9-1...

  1. Default 9-1...

Led by all stars Eric Fehr and Ryan Stone, the
Brandon Wheat Kings buried the hometown Warriors 9-1 Saturday night to
clinch their best of seven Western Hockey League opening round playoff
    series.

Fehr, who led the WHL in scoring this past season, scored three times
and set up two others while Stone, who finished second in the league
scoring race, had his first goal of the playoffs as well as five assists
for the Wheat Kings, who won the series four games to one.

Brandon will now host games one and two of the Eastern Conference
Semi-Finals on Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th at the Keystone
Centre. The Wheat Kings will play the Prince Albert Raiders or the Calgary
Hitmen as it all depends on what happens in the current series between
Red Deer and Medicine Hat. The defending champion Tigers lead that series
three games to two heading into game six Sunday night in Red Deer.

Should the Tigers win that series, Brandon will meet the Hitmen.
However, should Brent Sutter's Rebels come back to win games six and seven,
the Wheat Kings will face off against the Raiders. Prince Albert swept
Saskatoon in the opening round of post-season play while the Hitmen
upset Lethbridge four games to one.

Tickets to games one and two next weekend will go on sale Sunday
morning at 10 a.m. at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also purchase
by phone at 726-3555 or on-line at ticketmaster.ca

In Saturday's series clincher at the 'Crushed Can' in Moose Jaw,
defenceman Steven Later helped Brandon to a 4-0 first period lead by scoring
the first two goals of the game. The second highest scoring defenceman
during the regular season returned to the Brandon lineup on Saturday,
after having to sit out Friday night's game as he served a one-game WHL
    suspension.

Lance Monych, Sami Sandell and rookie defenceman Daryl Boyle, with his
first ever WHL playoff goal, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who
outshot the Warriors 34-17 and led 8-1 through forty minutes of play.

Defenceman Jordan Henry replied for the Warriors, who finished the
season with a 1-14-1 record against Brandon.

Brandon enters round two hoping to earn a trip to the Conference Finals
for the third time in the past four years.

    Default Congrats Wheat Kings

I picked you guys to win the WHL, keep it going. Last night Fehr and Stone kinda took over, I was surprised that the Warriors got the one victory. Best of luck in round two. Plante, what a great young goalie

    calgary VS Wheat Kings

I don’t think Calgary could hold up to the Kings offence.

    I dunno about that.

Brandon dropping 9 on an absolutely awful team that shouldnt have even been in the playoffs in the first place does not scare me.

Especially if the new Hitmen show up rather than the regular season Hitmen.

These play offs have seen some great battles already with more to come but I think most will agree that at the end it will be the Wheaties!

We'll all have some fun along the way but at the end of it we all want the Cup in the west!!!!!
