The game was but four minutes old before Gary Sylvester and Seattle's James McEwan dropped the mitts in a quick bout ending in the home sides favour much to the crowds delight. The Rockets also outshot the T-Birds 16-7 in the first, shutting them out completely on the shot clock for the first fourteen minutes.

The Rockets opened the scoring on their fifth powerplay opportunity when Tyler Spurgeon pounced on a loose goal mouth scramble. Troy Bodie and Kyle Cumiskey assisted on the play.
