For me it is definetly the Liberals (even though they have an outside chance at best in my riding). My reasoning for that is that I don't think the Conservatives are serious about climate change, they have been in power since 2006 and have yet to invoke their "cap and trade" system of dealing with carbon and pollution emissions, yet when the Liberals bring up the idea of a permanent carbon tax, the Reform Party, OPPS!, Conservatives I mean, shoot it down as a stupid idea and not an economically responsible move, even though other countries have shown it can work. You have to look no further than Sweden who passed a permanent carbon tax in 1991, and their economy has been in great shape and has continued to grow (plus their pollution standards are way below the amount set by Kyoto). In the face of that the Conservatives announce that they are cutting diesel tax, which is further proof they don't give a **** about the enviroment, they seem to only care about the now and not the later while trying to convince the people that tax cuts are always good, even though this isn't the case. Another reason I will vote Liberal and not Conservative is the way the Conservatives have handled the economy, under the Conservatives, Canada has the worst economy in the G7, further proof that Mr. Flaherty and co have done a poor job, financially speaking anyway. For a Westerner I am sure alot of people will think that is pretty radical thinking!, but I urge people to vote Liberal, and if not, vote NDP or Green, because they are pretty good alternatives. Even though I want the Liberals in power I am going to expect another Conservative minority though, I don't expect things to change any time soon.

***Also my hate of privatization makes me want to vote anything but conservative

Wouldn't that make you want to vote NDP?

I'm with you, I hate privatization as well. My problem is in my riding, the NDP candidate doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell. So I will vote for the incumbant Liberal to try and ensure that the Conservative doesn't get in.

How can a nice respectable "Westerner" vote Liberal?

I know where you're coming from though, it's usually the lesser of the 4 evils we have to pick in our riding.

Did anybody watch the debate tonight? Harper's "cheshire cat grin" was starting to get on my nerves. That, and the fact that Duceppe couldn't pronounce the word reimburse properly, and insisted on using it 50 thousand times. I found May to be quite a good speaker, it's going to take some time for the Green Party gain any respect though. Probably after it's too late.

I should restate my stance, I don't nessecarily hate privatization, but I do dislike the things previous conservative governments have privatized (such as Air Canada under Mulroney and Harper's secret want for two-tier healthcare) combine that with the prairie political culture that tends to be pro-nationalization and I guess thats why I think the way I do. It's not looking good for the Liberals right now though, had Ignagtieff been elected leader I have a feeling things would be alot closer right now.

Let me guess - you ain't from Alberta.

We don't much like overstuffed, inefficient, tax-sucking crown corporations around these parts. vci34

But you do like Money-Hungry, Polluting, Oil Companies. vci34

Just kidding, I grew up under the Socialist Regime here in SK. We love, love, love, Crown Corporations.

I was wondering though, what we were doing here in Saskatchewan that our pollution has increased 67% (or whatever was quoted last night). I wonder if they make Hybrid Combines.

P3's FTW? Yes...lets allow a private company to access some tax money to build something then run it and take the profit without returning any of that money to the local economy. Good idea. vc124

And last time I checked, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch was a crown corp and they make profits in the MILLIONS of dollars. And they do this while paying their workers a living wage in a union environment. Something that you don't see in private stores even though their prices are higher. So a crown corp is paying someone good money which they spend in their neighbourhoods. The economic multiplier of that money is insane. PLUS, this same crown corp puts almost $1B into federal, provincial and local government accounts. So can you explain how this is a bad thing?

Oh and just wait till the oil runs out or they put an end to the oilsands since it is the biggest polluting industry in Canada. Then Alberta will be a have not province...way worse than Newfoundland.
