Thread: 2009/2010 Broncos Roster

    Default 2009/2010 Broncos Roster

Is it safe to say that the 2009/2010 edition of the Broncos will consist of a variety of questions as in:
    - Is Morgan Clarke the answer between the pipes for the season or will a rookie goaltender rise above and surprise us all?
    - What will the 20 year old situation look like for the coming season? Out of Negrin, Stickland, Tassone, Molle, Claffey and Doyle, who will stick? Who will get moved (before the season starts are shortly after?)? 4 veteran dman as options, to go with two solid forwards. Could be quite the decision come start of season.
    - What possible rookie's could step in to the lineup and make a difference (Reece Scarlett, Allistair Chapman, Austin Smith, Graeme Craig, Adam Lowry, Joshua Derko, Nicco Digiovannantonio, Nathan Zimbaluk, Preston Amundson, Michael Lazo, Clayton Chingee) - these were the 2008 Bantam Picks...anyone to add to this list?

I know who I would like to stick around from our list of 20's, what about you? What are other people hearing and saying about the upcoming season?

Clarke is not the answer. He's a back up at best. I'm thinking a trade happening. (I hope anyway) I still think we should have kept Guggs to tutor a rookie.
I believe Negrin will be gone and Molle isn't worth the 20 spot so that leaves Tassone, Stickland, claffey and Doyle. It's a toss up to me between Claffey and Doyle.

Remember the past, live for the present, look to the future.

I support the TEAM no matter WHO is coach or on the board 'cause I AM A BRONCO FAN!!!!

No need for Molle to even come to camp IMO. To me 20s would be Tassone, Stickland & Claffey. Pretty good leadership in those three.

Those are the three I was thinking (Tassone, Stickland, Claffey) simply because we'll have to trade someone (most likely a dman) and I think we would have more options trading Doyle than Claffey.

Isn't there a distinct possibility that Tassone and or Doyle will be playing in the AHL this season? They seemed like rather dominant players last season.

It would be tough for Tassone after surgery on both shoulders to crack a pro lineup. I don't see Dallas extending a contract until he proves his health.

For Matt, it probably depends on how he performs at rookie camp, assuming he gets an invite. Ditto for Doyle... heard some rumours about Washington being interested in him, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. If Doyle does come back I think he'll bring the most in any trade. Not that I want to see him leave, but that's the reality of it. Negrin's not coming back, the Flames will want him in Abbotsford. Right now I'm hoping that Dean either gets a goaltender, or that one of the rookies really shines in camp. What I saw of Clark doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.

Goaltending could be a five person battle with Morgan Clark coming back, the rest looks like Andrew Hunt, Chad Ketting, Alexandre Sirad, and Austin Smith battling for spots. Ketting and Sirad are likely in a do or die point in their career as they are both 18 now I think. Smith will be 16, and Hunt will be 17 (I think). Personally I believe that Clark will be given every chance to win the starting spot, and barring a trade I think that he will be around. After that you got four guys competing for one spot. It should be a good battle. We all know the team is high on Smith, (but personally I don’t think that having a 16 yr old goalie back up in the WHL is more beneficial than playing every day.) Then there is Ketting, we all know what he brings, Sirad has a WHL win (against Regina last year), and Hunt was named the BC Major Midget Player of the month in December. Needless to say I am confident that one of these guys can step up and stick around.

The back end will take a hit this year. It looks to me that we will have Rogers, Evans, and Hewitt as guaranteed returnees. Then there are the three OA’s in Doyle, Claffey, and Molle. It wouldn’t surprise me if both Doyle and Claff stick around (assuming Doyle doesn’t sign pro), and Molle will need a lot of help to make this team as a OA. With that said I think we can move him, as being a former NHL draft pick might boost his value a touch. As for the new kids… Well Reece Scarlett was a first round pick, and I could see him sticking around next year. Also guys like Taylor Ernst, Allistar Chapman, Zack Habscheid, Jonathan Lashyn, etc that will compete for spots.

Forwards we will be strong. I could see Tassone signing pro still, (if he didn’t have the two shoulder problems I wouldn’t expect him back period.) If he signs, Stickland will be back for sure. After that we still have Dowling, Brown, Peddle, Darragh (he may be in tough to make the team), Wudrick, Vause, Hoban, Eakin, Dalecky and Wagner. That is a possible 12 forwards returning. I could see us moving one or two to help out the other spots on the team (especially one of the 20’s). I would think that barring a bad camp Michael Hay has a roster spot waiting for him. I have also heard some good things about Dane Muench and Josh Derko in the past too. I think this could be one of those years were we won’t have a 16 yr old forward on the team, because there just may not be a lot of room. However I am eager to catch Adam Lowry, Nicco DiGiovanantonio and Evan Richardson (our first round pick from the last draft) during camp.

Let’s not forget there could be a listed surprise or two like Evans was going into camp last year. An undrafted guy like Andy Blanke (played for the Legionaries last year), or Madison Dias could storm into camp and force the hand of Dean. You never know.

Taylor Ernest play wing last year for his midget team.
I was under the assumption that the Broncos wanted to look at him as a forward. He had a not bad year, stat wise.
