    Default OHL hit in Kitchener

OHL hit last night in Kitchener?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts go out to the Fanelli family and to Ben and hope he makes a full recovery.
It happened in the OHL game last night between Kitchener and Eerie.

Any thoughts on the hit? I hate to say it but I have seen it about 3-4 times and realize the other player was going at a very fast speed but i think Fanelli turned at the last minute and was hit face/head first into the end boards.

Very sad and hope this player makes a full recovery.
This topic was started in the Vancouver forum so I thought I would comment here. When I first saw the hit, I thought that Fanelli may have turned his back at the last second and Liambas had little or no time to react and change his course of action. However seeing more hits that this guy has laid out, I've changed my mind.

There's one thing about going for the "big hit", but this guy is ridiculous. Numerous high and dangerous hits in the four to six foot zone from the boards. This guy is a predator that unfortunately but inevitably caused serious injury to an opponent and should be out of hockey till he learns to respect others. This may be harsh and I'm sure he may be sorry but that is my opinion.
    I says pardon?

Out of all those other hits the worst one which was totally from behind with what appeared to be intent was the one on Tavares. He does do a lot of high hits with those others too. You are right that he is a head hunter and that will go against him if and when they decide to punish him.

That hit on Fanelli though still in my mind and viewing it was worse as Fanelli turned.

Pretty scary though when you think of all the hits you see on the ice or have given or taken yourself that something like that can happen.

^ well there's no fighting -- so players don't "hurt" themselves, but they let crap like this go unchecked and unpunished.

Not sure who has decided that this is lesser of evils -- please go back to old time hockey where players don't get punished for sticking up for their own. I find it ridiculous that two willing combatants can't remove their helmets or GOSH have them fall off during a fight (that's too dangerous -- OH MY! ) -- but players can get viciously and deliberately get levelled from behind the phenomenally blind powers that be are calling it just "part of the game" -- it never used to be a "part of the game" until they took that power away from the players with stupid instigator penalties and a casual attitude toward cheap-shotting sons of b's

I'm willing to bet that this guy gets a severe beating (and I mean severe) the first time he did it -- there wouldn't be anymore clips in the list above

The NHL in an attempt to "protect" the players have made them more vulnerable than they have ever been. This lip service to safety while letting the most consistently unsafe things go by the wayside is pure and simple hypocrisy. Bettman the lying weasel lawyer's fingerprints all over this one.

Any update on the Farelli kid???

The hit was not bad. Hell, thats how Garet Hunt played. Only thing here, instead of being 5' nothing...Liambas is huge.

"Hitting to hurt" has long been in CHL hockey. But that was in no way a "hit to kill" like some accused Liambas of.

Just a bad result from a solid hit.
