    Default Game 1

my take: Many times throughout the game you could tell the Tips were a team with seven guys who missed a good portion of training camp. It took a while for guys to get in sync (and I wouldn't say they ever really were in sync). That being said, they played through some tough calls, fought till the end and, most impressively, killed that 5 minute major with less than 7 minutes to go. These are the games good teams grind out a win. Give them a few more games to gel and let's see what this offense can do.

Hopefully Theriau just misses the one mandatory game suspension for his CFB Major & Game Misconduct.

    Sep 24, 2010

Everett, WA – The Everett Silvertips opened their 2010-2011 season in grand fashion Friday night coming from behind to defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3. Tyler Maxwell scored two third period goals, including the game winner with 38 seconds left, to earn second star of the night. Ryan Murray earned three points, all assists, to take home first star of the night. Campbell Elynuik and Kellan Tochkin rounded out the scoring for Everett.

Seattle got on the board first Friday night as Marcel Noebels scored for the Thunderbirds at 2:50. Noebels beat Simpson high, blocker side from the slot after an Everett turnover to give Seattle a 1-0 lead. The Thunderbirds increased their lead on the power play as Luke Lockhart crashed the net collecting his own rebound at 13:54 for a 2-0 Seattle lead. Elynuik responded for Everett just 23 seconds later scoring the first goal of the season for the ‘Tips. Murray made a great wrap around pass to Elynuik on the other side of the crease to tip the puck past Calvin Pickard at 14:17. The shots were tied 8-8 after the first 20 minutes of play.

Everett tied the game at 14:13 of the second period when Tochkin scored his first goal of the season on the power play. Tochkin collected a puck that bounced off the end boards to the front of the crease before beating Pickard to tie the score 2-2. The Thunderbirds regained the lead scoring their second power play goal of the game from Burke Gallimore. Gallimore scored at 16:31 to take a 3-2 lead after the second period.

Maxwell tied the score for Everett at 1:56 of the third period on the power play. Murray, from the point, made a great tape to tape pass to Maxwell back door for a tip in past Pickard and a 3-3 score. Everett gained momentum by killing a five minute penalty toward the end of the third period. Maxwell with 38 seconds left in the game beat Pickard five-hole from a great Landon Ferraro pass to come back and beat the Thunderbirds 4-3.

This brings the ‘Tips record to 1-0-0-0 with 2 points in 1 game played. Everett continues the WHL’s opening weekend tomorrow night against the Vancouver Giants.
