    Default Season Review

Sorry its late but with addition of my son, things have been super busy here at home.

The Hitmen finished a miserable 20-47-3-2 for 45 points. They scored just 171 goals and gave up 271 goals.

What went wrong? Its easy to pick out 3 things that really hurt the Hitmen this year:
The first thing is that the veterans on the team really underperformed. The guys who played well a season before, especially in the long run to the Memorial Cup never got on track. Foucault led the team in scoring but with just 48 points. Misha Fisenko, a surprise returnee, scored just 8 goals and 40 points on the season. After a great playoff run Cody Sylvester finished with 32 points. The team's #1 center Jimmy Bubnick scored 17 goals and had 27 points. Tyler Fiddler failed to hit double digits in goals, finishing with 9 goals and 19 points. Those kids were suppose to carry the load offensively but unfortunately didn't have great years.

One of the main reasons why the kids listed above had off years was because they all missed time with injuries. Its a bad excuse but on a team that was not going to be elite, losing their top players for extended stretches just exposed their lack of depth.

The third piece that hurt the Hitmen game in and game out was the lack on legitimate starting goalie. The Hitmen used Michael Snider, Brandon Glover and Juraj Holly between the pipes this season. None of the 3 really stepped and claimed the starting job and often gave up terribly weak goals, which seemed to just kill any good things the team was doing in those game. Holly was so inconsistent that he was sent back to Europe once Glover came over in the Moose Jaw trade.

The good things that came from the season:
Well first off lots of young kids got some experience playing that this level. Justin Kirsch scored 25 goals and looks to be a lock for 30-35 goals next season and finally, the Hitmen won the bantam draft lottery, so they get the first overall pick in the upcoming bantam draft.
