Spokane - Marek Kalus scored a pair of goals for the Spokane Chiefs to help them defeat the Victoria Royals 6-1 in front of 3,628 fans at the Spokane Arena on Wednesday night. With the win the Chiefs moved to 8-0 at home and are now two points behind first place Tri-City with four games in hand.

The Spokane Chiefs jumped out to an early lead when Mitch Holmberg picked up a loose puck from teammate Darren Kramer, skated to the slot and shot at 2:47. Kalus made it 2-0 finding an open net created by a Mike Aviani rush to the net at 3:21.

The Royals got on the board later that period at 10:28 off of a Steven Hodges' shot. Spokane regained its two goal advantage thanks to a Dominik Uher shot from the left wing at 15:21.

Conner Chartier scored his first goal of the year at 16:01 of the first when he found a wide open net created by a rebound from a Brenden Kichton shot.

Kalus had the lone goal of the second period, scoring his second of the game and fourth of the year, thanks to a great set up pass from Mike Aviani at 7:06 of the second to make it 5-1.

Colin Valcourt contributed to the scoring column in the third period, finding a free puck in front of the net at 14:53 and putting it in the back of the net. Anthony Bardaro was credited with an assist to give him a team leading 17 points on the season.

The Chiefs outshot the Royals 33-13 and went 0-3 on the power play, with Victoria going 0-4 on the power play.

The Chiefs next two games come against division rival Tri-Cities Americans, traveling there this Saturday, October 29th before welcoming the Americans to the arena the following Saturday, November 5.
