TERRY PERKINS JOINS THE PATS AS AN ASSISTANT COACH

Regina SK ----This afternoon the Regina Pats Hockey Club announced that former WHL All-Star & Junior A Head Coach Terry Perkins will join Curtis Hunt behind the bench as an Assistant Coach in 2005-2006.

Perkins had spent the last four seasons as the Head Coach of the Powell River Kings of the BCHL, while assuming the dual role of General Manager/Head Coach in 2003-2004. While with the Kings, Perkins led the team to the playoffs in four consecutive seasons and was named the BCHL Coastal Conference Coach Of The Year in 2001-2002 & 2002-2003.

I have heard a lot of great things about Curtis Hunt and I'm very much looking forward to working with him. It has been our families' goal to coach in the WHL for some time now and we are excited about the opportunity to come to Regina. This opportunity to work for the Pats is also a great opportunity for my family with my daughter attending Notre Dame College in Wilcox, and my son planning to attend there as well."

Head Coach at the Junior A level, as well as International competitions and
is an extremely organized and hard-working coach, which will aid him in
making the transition to the Western Hockey League. I believe Curtis &
Terry will compliment each other very well and I'm looking forward to

organizational skills and work ethic will be a great asset to our

Prior to his time with the Kings, Perkins spent eleven years in various
positions with the BC Best Ever Program where he won a bronze medal with
Team Pacific at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge as an Assistant Coach in
2000, and a silver medal in 2001 as the Head Coach.

As a player Perkins began his career being listed by the Pats in 1981, which
led to him attending Notre Dame where he won a provincial midget
championship with the Hounds. While playing in Wilcox his WHL rights were
traded to the Portland Winter Hawks. As a member of the Winter Hawks,
Perkins was a WHL Scholastic All-Star, while being drafted by the Quebec
Nordiques in the fourth round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.

Six games into his final WHL season Perkins was traded to the Spokane Chiefs
where he set a franchise record for goals in a season with 66. That season
he was named a Second-Team All-Star. In 200 WHL regular season games
Perkins scored 139 goals, 114 assists and added 230 penalty minutes from
1983 - 1986.

After two seasons in the minor leagues split between the Muskegon
Lumberjacks, Fredericton Express & Baltimore Skipjacks, Perkins joined the
Canadian National Team for a brief stint before beginning his coaching
career.

Very good move bringing him in. Has a lot of knowledge of the game and is a players coach. If your owner lets him coach like he can and keeps his nose out of it you will see alot of improvement in attitude with your players.

That could be the challenge in Pats land. Im impressed with what I have heard about this guy, but I have to wonder about the Parker influence. Its hard enough for a new guy to get started with the Pats, never mind with Parker breathing down your neck. Hopefully this guy can bring some improvement with him. I have a feeling he will get along great with Curtis, so at least the coaching staff will be strong.

Sounds as though Perkins is good with the younger kids (Pats will again have an abundance). And he is from B.C. and coached there, so he might have some influence in getting the some young B.C. players to actually want to come to Regina and play for the Pats. I think it's a good hire for Parker and the Pats.
