Default The Fight Over Fighting 02 Mar

No team in the Western Hockey League has dropped the gloves this season more often than the Swift Current Broncos. Their 85 fighting majors are 8 more than any other team in the league and the second most in the entire CHL.

    Enjoy it while it lasts.

If you're a fan of the hockey fight time may not be on your side. Two of the most powerful men in junior hockey made it clear this week they are part of a growing movement to keep the gloves on.

“The appetite is there,” Canadian Hockey League President David Branch told the New York Times. “The time is certainly right to move forward.”

Branch and Nicholson probably got their asses kicked a lot when they were young . Welcome to the dawn of P***y European style hockey. This is backed by all the fair play everyone gets a medal for showing up group that finished last in everything they did as kids. I dont mind getting the staged fights out but keep messing with the game and see the injuries rise when players get pissed and cant fight . Idiots Hopefully the owners in the OHL and those who pay Nicholson get a brain and veto it or better yet give the CHICKENS the boot .

You do realize that branch and Nicholson are puppets, right? They only represent the interests of their owners, who just want more money and dont care one iota about the integrity of the sport. They would change the puck to a beach ball if it made them an extra .01 percent annual profit.

so, "the appetite is there" is a pure horse**** statement. No fans at all actually side with that statement, and its a bold faced lie. Shame on the souless media cretins for printing lies.

But then again, branch is basically a certifiable radical nut to begin with. The fact a guy like this has this much power speaks volumes to the credibility of the sport.

If the owners really want more money, banning fighting certainly isn't going to help that cause.

it will make the product more family friendly, and bring in those of soft morals, which unfortunately is alot of people. Fighting deters that crowd, and even if actual fans like all that, it isnt where the money is.

If the masses werent where the money was, they certainly wouldnt be trying to do this. They wont ever do something if it means they lose money.

Attendance in the Ajhl and Bcjhl has dropped since fighting restrictions where put in place. Coincidence? Maybe/maybe not

In other words a potential fan base that doesn't actually exist and still won't exist if/when fighting is banned? That doesn't sound like a very smart move at all.

Definitely not a coincidence. Of course fighting isn't the sole reason for that but to think it has no significance whatsoever is flat out ignorant.
