The Medicine Hat Tigers proudly selected defenseman Ty Schultz from New Westminster, BC with their first pick of the draft, 16th overall.

Schultz, 5’ 11”, 150 lbs played for the Burnaby Winter Club during the 2011-12 season collecting 10 goals and 45 assists for 55 points in 69 games. He added 59 PIMS to his totals and was +73.

"Ty is a top end two-way d-man who played for the Burnaby Winter Club winning the Western Canadian Bantam Championships the past two seasons, contributing a huge part to the success of that program,” said Tigers’ general manager Brad McEwen. “He has real good skill, moves the puck extremely well and plays well in all situations.

"Ty was a constant all-star selection at numerous bantam tournaments throughout Western Canada including the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds Bantam Tournament this past November.”

With their 2nd round selection (38th overall), the Tigers added 5' 9" 150lb centre Matthew Bradley of Surrey, BC.

With no draft picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds, the Tabbies had to wait until the 5th Round for their next selection, when they took 5' 8" 134lb centre Jordan Xavier of Calgary with the 104th overall choice.

Scouting Report: Skilled forward with scoring ability, good compete level and brings lots of speed.

In Round 6, the Tigers made back-to-back picks beginning with 6' 0" 150lb RW Mendell Dubuisson of Surprise, AZ with the 125th selection (draft pick via Vancouver Giants).

Next off the board was 6' 0" 184lb D-man Mitchell Dyck of Winkler, MB at 126th overall.

The 7th Round also saw the Tigers make a pair of picks, beginning with 5' 10" 154lb Goaltender Riley Morris of Calgary, AB at 143rd overall (draft pick via Regina Pats).

Scouting Report: Lots of athletic ability, one of the top goaltenders coming out of Calgary.

The Orange & Black followed that up by selecting Justin Young, a 5' 11" 152lb Centre out of Leduc, AB with the 148th overall choice.

Scouting Report: Hard-working, gritty forward with the ability to score.

The Tigers made one pick in each of the next three rounds. Defenceman Brad Forrest of Calgary (8th RD, 170th) "Mobile, puck-moving power play specialist", Left Wing Jake Fletcher of Surrey, BC (9th RD, 192nd) "Hard-nosed, two-way forward that goes to the greasy areas. Good skater with good shot", and Defenceman Todd Bredo of Prince George, BC (10th RD, 214th) "Stay-at-home, tough d-man that is capable of clearing the front of the net" all were chosen by the Tabbies.

The club wrapped up it's 2012 Bantam Draft day by selecting Rosetown, SK's Brayden Uhrich with the 236th pick in the 11th Round "Physical winger that is hard on the puck. Likes to finish his checks and opposition does not like to play against him".
