It's not a sure thing Maguire will report to Brandon either. Apparently his parents are heavy on him getting an education but being closer to home now probably has him thinking twice bout the WHL route.

Its perplexing at this day and age that some folks still think of "playing Major Junior" & "Getting an Education" as a one vs the other thing, as if they are somehow mutually exclusive.

The WHL Education Package is the best in the world, and it's high time folks started associating the WHL and Getting an Education as one and the same. I think there was 300 WHL grads and over 100 active players getting a quality education on the WHL scholorship plan last year. Another thing the WHL needs to stress more, is that many of the schools attended by WHL grads are BETTER than the NCAA schools offering athletic scholarships.

The one thing the NCAA has done succesfully has paint the picture of playing sports in the NCAA and getting an education as a package deal, but as we know, thats not always the case - especially with the gifted athletes, who now more than ever bolt early for the pros.

Parents who want their sons to get a quality education need to take a closer look at the WHL Education package, as in addition to being the best hockey path for most of the kids in its territory, it may also be the BEST route for the academically gifted athlete.
