    Iconwhl 2013 Offseason thread

stole this from the blades boards as not a bad idea keep some talk within the team together.

Next on the Pats agenda is this coming weekend at the Spring Development Camp being held at the co-operators building. I for 1 am looking forward to this to finally see Steel in the blue & white, as well as Reagan & Fulton again (2 guys who are 6'4 200lbs) definately another perk to this camp is to maybe get abit of an idea on how Cameron will be coaching this season, as the kids r given a quick lay down on the teams systems & how they want to see them play over the weekend. Of course it wont be picture perfect will be very far from it as its just a weekend camp & cant expect alot in terms of any sort of systems.

Is there any improvements anyone would want to see for this coming year? Maybe player personnal coming in or leaving town?

Has there been anymore talk about the Forsberg situation?
I for 1 think that ship has sailed, it wasnt like he lite up the SJHL, something that im sure PG was hoping that hed end up doing. Yes he was a point/game player but being a former #1 overall bantam pick with WHL experience but i dont think he truely scared anyone in that league to be honest.

I dont really follow the SJHL much but was Forsberg really playing with anyone decent to maybe showcase his skills much? of did the Broncos rely alot on Hrynkiw there 20yr old goalie?

What happen's with our goalie situation?
I believe this job is Sacher's straight out of camp, as strong of a year as Dawson MacAuley had i think him failing to stay in the WHL the job is Sacher's to lose. Plus Beukeboom will want back in the league as well, then we can throw into the mix 18yr old Tanner Burgardt & 17yr old Patrick Gora. The Pats do have alot of depth in the crease which can be good trade bait to maybe fill a hole here & there. I highly doubt we go with 2 19yr old goalies this year.

Forsberg played very well for Humboldt. What everyone seems to forget is that the Bronco's were rebuilding this year. Put everything into hosting last season. Rebuilt right to the league finals. Forsberg really enjoyed it there and will stay there if the right trade doesn't happen. He is in control now, not PG anymore.

From my understanding with Forsberg he will play anywhere in the WHL besides another year in PG

    F - Liam Finlay
    5'5" 120lbs
    Born - Feb 18/97
    Hometown - Kelowna, BC
    12-13 Team: Okanagan Rockets (BCMML)
    How acquired: List
    Stats- 40gp 10g 40a 50pts 12pim

Kind of thought with this kids speed he would of had more goals then just 10, as he was very dangerous every shift last year at rookie camp.

    C – Drew Litwin
    5’10” 145lbs
    Born – Feb 28/97
    Hometown – Wynyard, SK
    12-13 Team: Tisdale Trojans (SMAAAHL)
How acquired: 11th round pick, 231st overall (2012)
    Stats- 40gp 10g 10a 20pts 45pim

    C – Kyle Westeringh
    6’0”’ 155lbs
    Born – Aug 8/97
    Hometown – Rosedale, BC
12-13 Team – Fraser Valley Thunderbirds (BCMML)
    How acquired: List

How acquired: 5th round pick, 109th overall (2012)
    Stats- 32gp 12g 7a 19pts 20pim

Alittle low for Zimmer especially after such a strong rookie camp.

    RW – Dane Schioler
    6’0” 160lbs
    Born – Apr 12/96
    Hometown – Winnipeg, MB
    12-13 Team: Winnipeg Thrashers (MMHL)
How acquired: 2nd round pick, 36th overall (2011)
    Stats- 42gp 20g 20a 40pts 90pim

I think this year in midget has really helped Dane, his skating wasnt the strongest at camp last year & to be just shy of a 1pt/game should give him some confidence. I dont think he will be taking part in the Spring camp since he is 17

    LW – Angus Scott
    6’0” 190lbs
    Born – Mar 3/97
Hometown – Salt Lake City, Utah
12-13 Team – Notre Dame Argos (SMAAAHL)

    Born – June 2/97
    Hometown – Grande Prairie, AB
12-13 Team: Grande Prairie Storm (AMHL)
How acquired: 10th round pick, 206th overall (2012)
    Stats- 10gp 0pts

    DEFENSE

    RD – Robbie Fulton
    6’2” 170lbs
    Born – Jan 31/97
    Hometown – Camrose, AB
    12-13 Team: Camrose Vikings (AMMHL)
How acquired: 6th round pick, 114th overall (2012)
    Stats- 30gp 8g 9a 17pts 103pim

    LD – Chase Harrison
    5’11” 155lbs
    Born – Oct 11/96
    Hometown – Winnipeg, MB
    12-13 Team: Winnipeg Thrashers (MMHL)
    How acquired: List
    Stats- 44gp 8g 22a 30pts 30pim

Him & Dane Schioler were teammates in WPG, Chase was the teams top scoring Dman & 22a shows that he is a puck moving Dman. I liked him alot last year at camp thought he could of played Mumby's role alot better. Again dont think he will be at Spring camp as he is 17

    RD – Brendan Kallis
    6’0” 155lbs
    Born – May 18/97
    Hometown – St. Albert, AB
12-13 Team: St. Albert Flyers (AMMHL)
How acquired: 4th round pick, 68th overall (2012)

    6’2” 200 lbs
    Born – Aug 19/97
    Hometown – Okanagan Falls, BC
    12-13 Team: UFA Bisons (AMHL)
How acquired: 2nd round pick, 31st overall (2012)
    Stats- 11gp 3g 1a 4pts

Only stats i could find on him looks like the site stopped updating stats

    RD – Nikolas Koberstein
    6’1” 160 lbs
    Born – Jan 19/96
    Hometown – Barrhead, AB
12-13 Team: St. Albert Raiders (AMHL)
How acquired: 7th round pick, 135th overall (2011)
    Stats- 11gp 0g 1a 1pts

    Born – Mar 20/97
    Hometown – Lloydminster, SK

    6’1” 160lbs
    Born – Jan 5/96
    Hometown – Edmonton, AB
    12-13 Team: SSAC Athletics (AMHL)
How acquired: 6th round pick, 113th overall (2011)
    Stats- 10gp 0g 1a 1pts

The site used for the AMHL is a terrible site to find stats on, looks like they stopped updating the player stats & just kept the team stats updating. I had to use a site called midgetaaacanada.com not a very reliable site in my eyes.

List of all sites used were
    midgetaaacanada.com
    ammhl.ca
    mbaaamidget.ca
    bchockey.net
    smaaahl.com

If anyone can find better up to date stats from the AMHL please feel free to inbox me with the info & ill update the stats from the players in that league.

Great thread. I too am looking forward to the week end and to see these future Pats.before that I want to see if there are any opinions about the over ages.

Saskatoon has traded Thrower to the Giants for a (conditional) 2nd round pick The blades rooster has 3 NHL drafted but unsigned potential over agers (Thrower)(Sutter)(Mccolgan) and 7 undrafted and unsigned (Astles)(Beniot)(Burns)(Craig)(Pufahlt)(Schmidt)(V alcoudt). Could any of those improve our roster(for the spell master correct spelling not rooster) Would you trade as high as a 3rd or 4th conditional pick. IMO I would look at Sutter, I like Astler as a grinder but he has only scored 7 goals in 4 seasons. Our potential over agers are Luke Fenske, Dyson Stevenson and Trent Ouellette and I'm not sure Sutter would be an improvement to those three

Going back to the 2011 draft Dane Schioler, Eric Donald could be in the picture. Can anyone confirm that Eric Donald has committed to a college? Pattrick Gora is from that crop and he had a very good camp last year so I explec him the bee in the tenders mix.

Looking forward to watching Sam Steel and also Luc Smith

    Default Goalie Situation

I think you can take Beukaboom out of the equation his stats last season were:

    Season------Type---GPI--GA-- GAA---MIN----Sv%---SO---Win---Loss--Ties---OTL---SOL
    12/13--------Reg-----7-----17---2.79---366----0.911---1---- 4------ 2------ 0-----0-----0

He played with Drumheller in the AJHL I do not think that 7 games gave him serious opportunity to improve.

The Pats will not want to have 2 19 year olds in net unless they are both studs. My guess is they keep 1 of the 19 yo's either Sacher or MacAuley and a younger goalie

Has anyone attended the Spring Development Camp yet this weekend?

Myself I have took in both skates so far & have been impressed with a few players.

Sam Steel- He reminds me a lot of Weal, only thing is Steel skates a lot better then Weal ever did. Steel uses that spin hit the Weal used a lot down low when battling a Dman. The kid has some soft hands & on breakaways he tries to slide the puck 5 hole a lot after opening the goalie up. He will be an interesting player to see how he develops after 1yr in midget hockey.

Brady Reagan- He is an automatic lock to make this team out of camp, not just cuz of his pedigree but cuz he is among men playing with boys out there this weekend. The coaches have been matching him up with either Zimmer or Wagner a lot when it comes to 1on1 battles.

Robbie Fulton- Big guy starting to fill out a lot more since fall rookie camp, you can tell by watching that he just isn't able to play his style of game in this type of setting. He tends to let up a lot not wanting to hurt anyone, it doesn't take much effort for him to send a guy into the boards.

Jared Freadrich- This kid has been very impressive I have thought in camp. He loves to use his legs, small skilled type Dman who seems to want to take off with the puck a lot.

Luc Smith- This was 1 of the kids I was pretty excited to watch this weekend. Day 1 he seemed abit lost at times but that was maybe to be expected from a 15yr old abit. Today on the other hand he seemed to be more comfortable & was using his size more to his advantage. He doesn't skate very well though needs to be put thru some skating schools or what not to work on his stride more.

Austin Wagner- He like Reagan is a lock to make this team, his shot is hard & accurate hes been picking corners on the goalies all weekend long. He had some good battles with Reagan & Fulton today which seemed like a 50/50 split. He seems to have all the tools to be a quality 16yr old, he is 10 miles ahead of Ortynski.

Rylee Zimmer- Was expecting alittle more "take control" during camp from him after seeing him in the camp last fall. Its not that he hasn't been good cuz he has been 1 of the top players at camp, it just doesn't seem like he had much improvement since the last time I seen him at camp. Besides being stronger with a harder shot, his skill level seems to have levelled out....will see what happens in the fall camp

Brady Third- He doesn't seem to mind getting his nose dirty in the plays but he has been pulled aside a couple times by Cameron he seems to struggle abit with the drills they are trying to do, kind of wants to do his own thing. I think he will be a work in progress throughout his junior career (be it at the WHL or Jr. B)

Jared McAmmond- He has some skill & catches on quickly to the drills being explained. I think he definately has some potential within the league.

Colton Kroeker- I have loved this guy thru 2 days of camp so far, at being 6'2 he skates extremely well, uses his body & has a good shot as well. He will have a legit shot at making this team prob is even ahead of Zimmer in my eyes anyways (for what that is worth lol)

Drew Litwin- Loves to use his legs, he is definately a steal from the 11th rd that we selected him in, hes been 1 of the better forwards thru 2 days of camp.

Jacob Elmer- He seems at times to be fighting the puck abit, just cant get a handle on it, be it nerves or a direct look at his skills whatever it is hopefully it gets all figured out soon. Has a good shot when he does release it.

Rykr Cole- Prob 1 of the top 3 fastest skaters at camp, always seems to make that hard 1st pass. He will definately be in the fold when it comes to which 16yr olds we keep this year. Kind of reminds me of Hunt

Adam Berg- For being a list player passed over in the bantam draft he has been nothing but impressive all camp long. It wont surprise me at all if he gets into main camp this summer.

Both goalies have been impressive, today I cant recall which goalie it was right at the end of drills in the 2on2 battles with each net at the circles edge but he (whoever he was) with no stick made 3 insane saves, 2 of them on Steel alone & then Smith hit the cross bar on another shot during same sequence of battles.

For anyone who hasn't attended this camp it is basicly just putting the players thru a WHL level practice. A lot of breakout drills & learning how Cameron wants to play hockey. If anyone had taken in any of the Pats practices in the last 2 yrs things have changed a lot. Even tho Cameron always ran practices with Conacher off to the side & doing other coaching with the players you can tell it was exactly how the Pats played on the ice with a lot of chip drills. This year so far I believe there has been about 8 different drills Cameron is working on with them & only 1 drill has there been any chipping. Which is nice to see from a fans perspective.
