Kennewick, WA – Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has traded 18-year-old forward Ryan Chynoweth (pron. Shin-ow-th) to the Kootenay Ice in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

Following today’s moves, Tri-City’s roster now sits at 26 players, including 16 forwards, 8 defenseman and 2 goaltenders.

Chynoweth, a 6’1 175-pound center from Cranbrook, British Columbia, was acquired by Tri-City in October of last season, coming over from the Everett Silvertips. After appearing in 4 games for Everett in the 2012-13 season, Chynoweth went on to play in 33 games for Tri-City, totaling a goal, 4 points and 41 penalty minutes. So far this season, Chynoweth has appeared in all 3 games for Tri-City, picking up an assist and 4 penalty minutes. Between Everett and Tri-City, the third-year WHL forward has appeared in 107 WHL games, and has collected 3 goals, 13 points and 92 penalty minutes.

“With an abundance of forwards, we felt that a situation for Ryan in Kootenay was best for his development as a player,” explained Tory. “We thank Ryan for his commitment, dedication, and work ethic to our team and we wish him all the best as he gets to play in his hometown.”

After picking up their first win of the season on Tuesday in Portland, the Americans look to continue their success on the road with stops in Seattle and Spokane. First, on Friday, Tri-City visits ShoWare Center in Kent to battle the Thunderbirds at 7:35pm. Then, the Americans and Chiefs renew their rivalry on Saturday, September 28 at Veterans Memorial Arena. Game time is 7:05pm. Tri-City returns home on Tuesday, October 1 when the play host to the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Toyota Center.
