Default After 10, the defense and goaltenders 2013-14

Devan Fafard (B-) - One of those unheralded blueliners that isn't at all flashy, but makes the team a great deal better when he is in the lineup. I had hoped he would be the captain this season.

Nick Charif (?) - I thought he looked fantastic in the lone game he has played so far. Great lateral mobility, an active stick, and reads the play really well. This could end up being the best deal of the year for the Rebels.

Hayden Fleury (A-) - Has really carried the team on some nights so far. Carries the puck up ice well, and gets a ton of shots on goal. Best defenseman this season hands down.

Austin Shmoorkoff (?) - Was unimpressed with his composure and overall speed in training camp, but he has gotten the call again. I suspect that if Dumba is returned, he will be on his way back to AAA.

Kirk Bear (C+) - Big, solid body. Not really flashy, and hasn't made a ton of mistakes yet. He seems to be getting more confident with every passing game. Will be interesting to see where he fits into the lineup in the coming years.

Brady Gaudet (C+) - He has really shone on the powerplay this season, and put up a decent amount of points. However he has taken some REALLY stupid penalties, especially on the road trip, and he has looked sketchy in his own end at times.

Kayle Doetzel (B-) - Like Gaudet, he took some really stupid and untimely penalties on that road trip, and plays for long stretches in games without making physical contact with other players. Was super impressed when he stepped up and punched out the skill-less, shaved ape that drilled Mpofu from behind last night.

Kolton Dixon (C) - Positionally sound, pretty good first pass, pretty good vision, aggressive. On the minus side, he is maybe a little TOO aggressive, and his penalties have really cost the team so far.

    Goalies

Taz Burman (?) - Looked good against a weak team that got barely any shots on goal, and then average agaist another weaker team. He does have some potential though, there is no arguing that.

Patrik Bartosak (A-) - He has let a few uncharacteristic goals in, but has been getting steadily better and better with each passing game. Could repeat as MVP!

Well, he has really no offensive game whatsoever, and defensively he is average to above average, depending on what night you catch him on. I have been waiting for him to step up and be a leader on this team, and he sure did that last night when he didn't hesitate for a second to step up and defend his teammate against a larger opponent.
