The Penticton Vees hope a former Kelowna Rocket will give them an added boost in their quest for a prolonged BCHL playoff run.

The Vees announced they have signed forward Shane McColgan who spent parts of five seasons in the WHL, most recently with the Portland Winterhawks.

McColgan battled injuries and was limited to three assists in 10 games this season prior to parting with Portland. He chose to play in Penticton after his WHL rights were traded to Lethbridge at the Jan. 10 trade deadline.

Fred Harbinson, the Vees' president, general manager and head coach, said McColgan will be a key piece up front.

"Shane's junior numbers speak for themselves. Adding him to our top line, that already includes two of the BCHL's top three goal-scorers, will clearly make our team that much more dynamic," Harbinson said.

"Shane has also played in two Memorial Cups; that type of experience is invaluable come playoff time."
