    Default Training camp week

Big week this week with the start of training camp. According to BR, he thinks he will have 21 returning to camp from last year. Personally I can't see it. Will be interesting to see how many return from last year and how the prospects do and whether those that have not signed will end up signing. Let the games begin....

    Thumbs down

In the meantime three undrafted bantams from Lethbridge have been invited to rookie camps of other W teams. One to Kelowna and one to Kooteney. Third unknown location. What is wrong with our local Lethbridge scouting. Wonder if GM and head scout (father and son live in Calgary or Lethbridge) Go figure

Well chances are they were invited to several camps and had to choose which one to go to. Klinkhammer is usually at every G Hawks game but so is Caputo/ Lyons etc... Last year any kid with a pair of skates was invited to Kelowna Rookie camp, over 80 attended. With last years draft, there is no room for any more 99's. The 98's in the city were a lot stronger group then the 99's were, I know two of then who chose to go to other camps over Lethbridge as they were invited to several.

Well that's an excuse. Why not Lethbridge? I have also heard that those from the rarified air pay no attention to the local scout(s). We will see down the road. Drafting a 14 year old means nothing. Kelowna and others are hedging their bets if their drafts decide to play the piano. Lethbridge should do the same. I guess that is how you get success, invite any kid with a pair of skates.

One of the biggest differences between teams like Kelowna and Lethbridge is that Lethbridge does not have a rookie camp where they can invite 50 some odd prospects. They only have a main camp, so you can't have your 21 returnees, plus your protected players list plus 25+ extra kids that you just want to take a look at.... Just not enough room on the ice!

    Any idea why they don't.

Derek's reply was not an excuse, it was a fact! None of the 3 players you are talking about were chosen in the let's say the top 200 drafted players.

As undrafted players they probably got 5 or more teams asking them to come to camp and give it a shot, albeit a longshot. All 3 may have had invites from the Canes but chose to go elsewhere. Let's face the facts. The Canes are probably the last team any kid would choose to try out for, home team or not.

Let's just say they all chose to attend the Hurricane's camp and all were cut after a few days. This could bring more adverse publicity for the Cane's then not taking them at all. I can just see the headlines in the papers. CANES CUT 3 LOCAL PLAYERS after just a few days.

Not all is what it seems to be at a quick glance.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

    Default 2014/2015 Training Camp defections...

Cane's tweet that Erkamps and Duke have requested trades and have not reported to this year's training camp. So the story remains the same. Guess they really don't have much choice though, if they wish to have even a remote chance to learn and develop enough to earn an opportunity to get to the next level someday. Good on them, their families and their player's agents for making the tuff decision!!! Don't know if I totally agree with these types of decisions at the Jr level, but in the case of the Canes allowing DB to continue, there should be no blame on these players and they should feel no shame! Good luck boys and remember, it is not possible to be traded to a worse team, cuz there isn't one...LOL
