    Default Interestingly Enough

That is a great job on the breakdown Bo. Thanks for putting that together. I thought it was interesting to note that of the 18-19-20 year olds

Left/Traded Under Preston over 3 Years

    Merkley
    Leverton
    Topping

Left/Traded Under Robson in 1 Year

    Henry
    McKecknie
    Yakabowski
    Erkamps
    Pilon
    Olynek

Of course, Robson was the head scout when all of these players were drafted.

None of those players are good enough to get you into the playoffs. McKechnie and Yakubowski were bad for Seattle and the rest are hanging onto their jobs with other teams. Only Merkley and Henry have panned out, I guess.

Tigers will be without 7 regulars tonight.
    5 at NHL Camp
    3 injured
Not counting 1 because too many over-agers..

Lethbridge will be facing a really young, small, waterbug tiger lineup for the first 2 games.

Who will the canes be missing?

Sheen, Estephan, Jensen, Sayers, and Alldridge are injured, no word really on when they return. A week in between the home and home with Medicine Hat and our next game in Calgary may allow some time for healing up. Duke is still at Wild camp.

    15 losses in a row.
38-18 on the shot clock and 3-2 on the scoreboard.
    Things have totally changed.

Play was a little better. Anemic in the 1st period. Robidoux played well, let in the usual soft one that comes along with being a Hurricanes Goalkeeper, but overall was fairly solid. Sheen was off, too much flash, not enough finish. Watson much the same. The Russian Skumatov played good, 2 goals, good finish from the slot and dug one out of the corner and got it to go while he was on his stomach, the Russian also ate a big hit and kept on ticking for the most part, so that was good as well.
Brutal call by the linesman that cost them a goal on the waved off icing (guess the linesman are rusty too after the offseason). Also IMO a bad call on the waved off goal, had this been a televised game and the Goal Judge would have more to look at I think that goal would have counted, but tough call nonetheless.
Once again though much of the same from last year, Keeper kept them in it after it took 15 minutes to get a puck on their net. Defense still scared to tie a guy up and take him to the boards, also scared to step in front of pucks. Bell and Walters played OK, but not what I would expect out of 2 20yo playing together on a line, and not from a guy who went to a pro camp. Hackman was his usual self, smart pinches, nothing flashy, he created the first goal on a great play to keep the puck in the zone. Sayers contributed heavy to the loss by putting the puck over the boards, but he made some decent hits, was probably one of the only D guys getting into it in the tough areas on the ice. Offense was anemic once again, nothing on net, no sustained pressure at even strength, lots of dump-no chase, stuff like that. Need a lot more from the Vets like Sheen, Watson etc if this team is going to have any success. The Power Play was actually a bit of a bright spot, there again IMO. Pucks to the net, guys out front creating traffic, on the 4 on 3 they did it text book by collapsing in and breaking down the diamond. So that was definite positive.

Will see what happens in the Hat tonight.. They cant hope to be a better team by trying to steal Wins like last night though, they need to win outright and rely on the steals to put them in the playoffs..

    Default my 2 cents..........

bryan is worth his weight behind the bench, the pk is miles ahead of what it was last year.. they pressured the tigs for the most part last night on the pp to the point its was hard for them to get set up..as for our forecheck, there isn't one.. the tig send in 3 men deep to hem you in which make it hard to get out of out zone, we sit at center ice waiting for them to come out....the first period is testament to that...when you have holub which wasn't good enough the play in tri, when you have bricker which wasn't good enough the play in regina/red deer, Warkentine ( moosejaw), Alldridge (Portland ) when a quarter of you team is made up of leftovers it make a person wonder what the last 6 years of building through the draft was all about...this organization is a mess, there's no other way to look at it.........
    GO CANES GO.................

    More positives...

Sheen was just out for 3 weeks... no surprise he wasn't 100%, he will be the top forward again within 1-2 weeks.

Foulk also played solid, standing up for the team more than once... unfortunately he got 17 minutes in the box when it should have just been 5.

Many of the MH shots were low quality... it wasn't a 10-2 loss, it was a tie game until 2 minutes left, the Canes were in it until 5 seconds left in the game.

    GO CANES GO
