I'll probably get dragged out to another game (what else are you going to do in this *****hole of a city) and we'll see if its any better but I won't hold my breath. This is a bad team getting by on smoke and mirrors and still run by morons on the board and in the hockey ops.

But if you enjoy it then more power to you and I hope you continue to go. When run properly a CHL team can be amazing to follow and a great time.

If others are enjoying it great for them, I have never said people shouldn't go to the games or enjoy themselves, but for me there is nothing to really like or talk about with this team.

Going to games still is a bad experience, the team still doesn't look close to being a contender either.
Wow....it's nice to finally hear from the president of the Cynics R Us fanclub....I was certain that with the happy change of fortune for the lads, that our old friend Moon would be silent....and lo and behold! I am starting to think Moon really isn't that sour, he just likes to stir the pot, and get everyone talking. Alright, I'll take the bait....
Not a contender?....highest scoring team in the Dub, best powerplay in the league, more 10 goal scorers than anyone else, rated in the top ten in the entire CHL....stop me when we get to the "not contending" or the "not a lot to like" part of this team....honestly, you say you have been to games when they have been "badly outplayed", I obviously have not been to those same games, and I have been to all the home games. Are they perfect? No, but they are a talented group, they play hard most nights, and they are damn fun to watch! I get it that not everyone will be superfans, and that's ok....but don't shortchange the boys, Mr. Anholt, or the absolute 180 degree turn that this club has made. Everyone gets to share their opinions, whether we agree with them or not, and I, for one, am glad that our friend Moon is providing a Yin to the rest of the hockey world's Yan.

I was silent and then someone called me out so I responded.

It may have been bad luck for me but yes in the two games i went to (Kelowna and PG the Canes looked bad in both).

Maybe the Canes will break the trend but I can't remember a junior team winning with a "team contribution" and no good players. Stars seem to drive the bus in juniors moreso than they do in the NHL so we will see if this win by committee thing works or not. Luckily for us we can see what happens and your and my opinions on the quality of this team will be played out for us to see.

I certainly believe what I write here and don't do it to stir the pot. There isn't enough responses here to bother with that. I have strong opinions and am not afraid to share them even if they are quite different from what the group thinks.

As I always say it is great that you and others are enjoying the team and the season. When I had season tickets (roughly 2006-09) I loved going to the games and it was an absolute blast. Well run junior organizations are a blast to follow and games are fun to go to because of that great combo of still feeling like a community rink but with high end skill on display. Unfortunately for me I don't see a well run organization on or off the ice.

More people need to take your attitude of assessing what you see, make an opinion and stand by it
Makes for good discussions. Something we don't see here often I've been a season ticket holder for the last 12 years and have to admit I was probably adding a little rose colouring to my glasses last year
Good to hear from you. We're all followers and supporters of the Hurricanes here so let's keep it up

I didn't necessarily call you out. I was hoping you might still be around as I was curious as to your opinion of the team now. In the past few years you have proven to be one of the team's harshest critics and understandably so. I was wondering how you felt about things now as you have remained silent and I must say you surprised me with your response. Given the team's turnaround on the ice I truly thought you might have some positive things to say.

I don't think a team needs one or two big stars in the line-up when you have a number of guys all contributing. As such this team is no weaker when the Millette Folk Lindgren line is on that ice than when the Wong Estephan Bellerive line is on the ice. The forwards are all contributing and with the highest average GF per game in the league, there is proof that can't be argued with. The defense pretty good. I am personally not the Nielson fan so many others are. He takes far too many stupid penalties and while he is putting up the points I feel he needs to start playing a lot smarter. Pankowicz has turned into a real solid player and I think Reagan is starting to really find his game.

All in all I thought you would be happy with what the team has done so far.

Oh I will say it is looking much, much better than it was.

While I don't think Anholdt is a very good hockey guy (look at his zero success and pretty much terrible teams) he is much more qualified for the role of GM than Preston or Robson. Kisio has a lot more of a background that would lead someone to think that he could have success at the WHL level than either Preston or especially Berehowski.

They have gone from god awful/embarrassing to now just having bad people in charge of the decision making. The board is still a major issue for me as public ownership has proven time and again to be an awful way to run a junior club and this board in particular has made wrong decision after wrong decision.

Perhaps if things hadn't got so bad and I wasn't so turned off by the club it would be easier to just enjoy this fluke half season and not care that it seems to mean very little in terms of future success.

The team is moving in the right direction and things are better than the rock bottom it was for the past 5 years but I am a little worried that people see this little run and think it is all good when there are still major holes.

It is a nice start but come back to me when the team is no longer under public ownership and when Peter Anholt is replaced by a quality hockey guy and you will hear me singing the praises of the organization and excited to throw my full support behind them. But for right now it looks like they threw some lipstick on the pig.

Default So it's all about the ownership thing

Silly me. I thought you were interested in hockey but it seems you can't give up this whole private ownership thing. This is a point I won't even spend the effort discussing with you.
I for one have tried to what I can to support this team. Buying shares, season tickets and hurricane swag. If it was a private owner I would also do what I can to help the team. I'm happy to see the turnaround of the team and am very proud of the boys on and around the ice. Proud of the fans coming back and supporting them. Happy for the management which has helped this turnaround.
You have some agenda with the board so be it but don't waste time slamming Anholt whose recent success with this team might show he might be a "hockey guy". And the pig with lipstick on it is in first place in the east, second in the WHL, ranked seventh in the CHL and putting on a good return for my entertainment dollar but you obviously don't care anyway.

I, too, find it odd that Mr. Moon is at least not grudgingly giving this group some credit. I just don't think that it's possible for this run to be a "fluke" or "lipstick". I think the only thing these kids have exceeded are expectations. You can't be in the position that this club is currently in without have some solid parts to the game. To say that Anholt is not a very good hockey guy is absolutely ludicrous. While he may not have had stellar success elsewhere, with this group he has had the advantage of building the team his way, from the ground up, with very little interference. And look at the results....a big, fast, highly skilled team that is setting the world on fire. And, make no mistake, the reason this has happened is because of Anholt. And, while I have certainly never been a fan of the community ownership model, this management group, and especially the president, has shown what happens with BETTER decision making, and letting the hockey guys make hockey decisions. Make no mistake, though, this is Anholts`s coach, and Anholt`s team, and I think the fun has just begun. Lets, see what happens come March, and THEN we will decide how much lipstick has been applied....

Well, looks like this gussied-up porcine has, as of last night (at least for now) reached the top of the WHL farm yard.....can't wait to see what happens!!

Ok, I have been holding my breath but slowly letting it out as the season goes on. I think I can now say this team is for real.
