Taking into account last night's win, the LEthbridge Hurricanes remain the only team in the CHL without any OT or shootout losses. That in itself is pretty impressive.

I don't think so. I think that it has been so long since this, or any other league, has seen an honest to goodness, run and gun, offence first team, that most of the teams simply did not know how to deal with it. But now, most of the teams are wise to this type of game, and are defending pretty well. With plugging up the middle, pounding the forwards when they have the puck, and plugging up the shooting lanes, teams are able to overcome the Canes' speed, and, I believe, exploit the Canes' defensive shortcomings. Every game from here in will be at playoff intensity, and the boys are just going to have to suck it up and match intensity for intensity. They have proven this year that they can, just have to do it consistently, and understand that winning is winning, whether it is with dirty, hard working goals, or not. They need to bury their chances when they have them, and be prepared for nasty, intense hockey, because that is what the rest of the league will be feeding the boys for the next couple of months.

Regarding the Hurricanes Playoff Ticket Packages

I was speaking today with a good friend of mine who used to work for the Hurricanes. She was ticked off at the way the Hurricanes are handling their playoff packages so I decided to do a little research.

Here is the information for teams that have any information on their website about playoff tickets.

    Brandon
-Purchase a playoff package and renew for 2016-2017, get first two games of playoffs free
-Season ticket price increasing to $475 for adults
-Playoff packages for season tickets who do not immediately renew $4 off per playoff game

    Edmonton
-Home games for first round of playoffs included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Kamloops
-First two home games of playoffs included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Kelowna
-First two home games of playoffs included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Prince George
-Automatic playoff ticket priveleges, first-in-line for additional playoff tickets

    Red Deer
-First two home games of playoffs included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Regina
    -Priority playoff seating

    Saskatoon
-First opportunity to purchase playoff packages

    Spokane
-First two home games of playoffs included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Swift Current
-Two free playoff tickets included with the 2015-2016 season tickets

    Victoria
-First right of refusal on their season tickets seats when a playoff package is purchased

Now here is what the business manager for the Hurricanes has come up with for their season ticket holders.

-2015-2016 Season Ticket Package promoted as first opportunity to purchase same seat for all Hurricanes playoff games
-Best adult price for 2015-2016 season ticket price - $488.70
-Best adult price for 2016-2017 season ticket price - $531.00, increase of $42.30 per ticket.
-Now advertised as only those agreeing to renew their season tickets for the 2016-2017 season tickets can buy a play off package
-Seat released to the general public for the playoffs if you do not renew by March 18
-No show of appreciation or acknowledgement for the season ticket holders who gave their money at the start of an unsure season after missing the playoffs for six years
-Board of directors stated that they required an average attendance of 3500 per game to get back on track. Average attendance now at 3573.

The worst part for me is that there is no playoff package for someone who can't commit to renewing before March 18. Therefore potentially someone who has stood by this team for years of a playoff drought is now being forced to commit to renew very early or lose their seats for the playoffs. What team does that? There are two couples who sit near us in Section O that have said due to layoffs they may not be able to come back as full season ticket holders next season after 13 and 7 years respectively. That was before they were made aware their tickets would now cost them an additional $84 per pair. And now they could lose the seats they have paid for all those years for the playoffs?

I am curious as to what they would have done if the Hurricanes had had a mediocre season and finished in third or even a wildcard position.

    Real nice Hurricanes. Real nice.

You are right Shushu. I suppose we shouldn't be at all surprised and yet it still somehow amazes me. We are very excited about seeing the playoffs again though.

The page on the website specifically says "Available only to those renewing or purchasing new season tickets!" It then says "Current season ticket holders must purchase before March 18th to secure their seat for playoffs, after this date their seat location will be available to others for purchase during playoffs".

Someone on the whiteboard said that he heard this had been changed because of people grumbling about it so I will certainly be checking this out tomorrow night at the game. Of course one would think if they had changed such a stupid thing that someone there would actually change it on the website too.

I just find it shameful that after all these years they are slapping the season ticket holders in the face by holding their playoff seats ransom for a commitment to buy the much more expensive season tickets for the following season. No other team does this and the fact that the Hurricanes are doing it is absolutely deplorable.

so the word is the playoff packages are available to all season ticket holders without having to buy your season tickets next year right now...the first 6 game will be given out for 120 buck, followed by another 6 if needed..any left over tickets will go toward next year package and will be due by june first...which is more than fair to me.............
