Thread: Possible move to Langley Events Centre?

Default Possible move to Langley Events Centre?

Very interested in what Steve Ewen has been writing about Giants brass touring the LEC and even attending a Vancouver Stealth game on Saturday. I for one hope they do move to the LEC. With the exception of the expense of the bridge toll which is offset by the gas savings, the big plus is that it's closer to home for quite a few of us and it's just a better venue. There aren't many advantages to staying in the Pacific Coliseum. The parking is expensive, it's old, the seats are narrow and there is no leg room. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Giants make the move. I know everyone won't agree, but those are my thoughts for what they're worth.

I was chatting with friends about this during last game. Is the lease up at the PNE? This could be posturing on the Giants part or I see them moving somewhere after next year. But I do think there going somewhere in the next year or so or before.

I think it's too late for next season due to scheduling already being worked on I think.

Apparently the lease is up at the PNE so the Giants are looking at either signing a one year lease or making the decision to move to the Langley Events Centre. I agree that it's probably too late to make the move for next season, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it actually happens within the next couple of years.

Anymore chatter on a potential move? The PNE spokesperson says the PNE won't lose any net financial losses if they do move. Or could be posturing as well. A stare down with the Giants.

All I know is this organization needs a much better product and much better game day operations wherever they play.

    Dreadful promotions etc

It goes far beyond the organization. The product itself is awful league wide. I have never been more bored watching hockey in my life. I don't think I'll be watching much longer to be honest. This new brand of hockey absolutely blows. And hell, I thought it was **** about seven years ago. It just keeps getting worse. It isn't even remotely entertaining.

I agree. Seems the league has really gotten away from the physical part of the game. Or the way the game use to be played. It's like the NHL. The no touch league. I barely watch the NHL anymore. Very rare to find any game entertaining.

    So perhaps your right.

I haven't watched the NHL in years. It's been awful for a long time. Ever since the lockout in 04-05. Been **** since. Junior was my saving grace. Provided the only entertaining hockey I could enjoy thoroughly. And now with Branch pushing this whole banning fighting in junior mantra like that is going to help sell more tickets. If people think the arenas are empty now just wait until that comes to fruition. Snooze fest special. Then again fighting is pretty much already gone as it is.

Totally agree. I think I heavily reduced watching NHL around that time. It's really hard to find a good game now. and to think the NHL is expanding :/ an already watered down league.

Well they can because plenty of idiots still waste a ton of money supporting that garbage product. They still show up in droves to watch sub-par hockey and feel like they are the lucky ones. I think they are morons. The NHL is laughing their way to the bank. Why watch a boring product with no emotion, no hitting, and no scoring? Worse off, why pay an asinine amount of money to watch it live? Staring at the wall is about as entertaining as most NHL games and best of all it's free. Sadly the WHL is becoming that way as well. Not so much in the cost aspect but in the entertainment aspect. It's becoming way too much like the NHL in the name of "safety" and the false notion that more speed and skill is what makes the game great. No, it isn't. It's a combination of everything. Speed, skill, physicality, emotion, hatred, rivalries, etc. If you eliminate one aspect (or in this case multiple aspects) it ruins the competitive balance. Nobody wants to watch the ice capades. That is essentially what we see now. And yet there still isn't much scoring despite so much "speed and skill" as the people in charge proclaim. Everything is over coached with too much structure and systems and no matter how much skill exists it's easier to stop offense and limit skill by playing defense and sticking to structure. And there is no real clear way of eliminating that. Reducing goalie equipment would help but it still won't solve all the problems. Either way the sport has gone soft and that appears to be a permanent change. I'm not on board with that and I never will be. If that is the direction we are heading I won't be along for the ride. That isn't real hockey.

Too many blocked shots and players with huge equipment to block them. They should give a penalty to any player intentionally blocking a shot create more offence. Drives me nuts the countless times teams block shots. Both whl and NHL. I wouldn't dare pay to see a game. Even the free NHL games I goto are less than inspiring. It just confirms my dislike of the NHL.
