I don't have an issue with blocking shots nor do I believe more offense automatically equals more entertainment. I find many fans seem to think along those lines and I don't really see the connection. Some of the most boring games I have seen in more recent times were high scoring. High scoring 5-5 and high scoring due to constant PP's are two different things entirely. The former is good, the latter is not. Scoring chances are more important than actual goals, IMO. But beyond that it's the lack of physicality that ruins it for me. And that part of the game seems to be gone for good. And if that's the case so am I.

Question regarding toigo and breaking even financially. What is the actual over head besides hiring 5 coaches in 3 years along with the current staff that can't draft and produce players? He doesn't have to pay the players.

I figured 36 home games X 5000 fans X $20 a ticket, might be a bit high. Equals 3.6M in gate. Of that he must share with the city?

If Ron doesn't like the arena and yes I think it needs an over haul or perhaps a new arena. Why doesn't he shell out some bucks to pay for these upgrades.

I fail to see how he's losing money. Other than all those coaches he hires year after year.

    Thanks

Toigo has lost his mind. Once again we have him making hockey decisions when he should be leaving that up to the professionals. He's reminding me of Wirtz and Wang and is looking an awful lot like the disaster ownership Portland had for their several years of bottom feeding woe. He's might save money up front, but he will lose a bunch of STHs (possibly 1000?+) and the product on the ice will not attract new fans to replace the losses.

I hear he is also proposing a GM/Coach combo, which for my money is death at this level and the worst thing for developing young players. They don't want a coach who is constantly distracted by contracts and GM duties and being fobbed off on Assistant Coaches. The team also suffers as the GM (which is a full-time+ job if they want it done right) is distracted by coaching duties. Without NHL credibility and no Quinn or Howe to keep Toigo in check he is letting his emotions run away with him and making some very poor decisions for the team.

I have to agree that the product across the league has gotten worse and it makes me sad when I am seeing more hitting in the NHL than I am in the Dub. It feels like they have dumbed down the game and cut off its balls to a point where it is barely watchable. If the Giants move to the LEC then they lose two of us as STHs. I had a tough time getting motivated to watch their last home game on Friday. I will not be driving 1.5 hours to Langley in rush hour. Someone needs to rein back Toigo as he is making some seriously dumb decisions and at the same time unwilling to actually make any decisions. Seems contradictory, but this dragging of heels and then making bad emotional decisions is killing this team. I really feel sorry for the players.

I agree he is killing these players development. It's so important at this age to find stability. Quite sad for these young guys. They may appear like adults but their 'kids'

Sadly - I liked our 16 year olds this year and was hoping to see them get better next year. They are bigger than our usual average and have some hunger. Unfortunately by the end of camp next season they will be so confused and this team will still be a massive mess if Toigo continues to make hockey decisions.

It will be interesting to see if the Giants indeed move to LEC if their name will change to the Langely Giants. If not you can bet Toigo is planning to move them once more in the near future to Surrey( build an areana) and then become the Surrey Giants. Personally I think he should sell them to the Canucks like Calgary and Edmonton and then have some decent people running the organization...meaning Linden and Benning (some may disagree).
I know it might mean moving to the Rogers arena but at least it is sky train. I live near the Surrey Langely border and I used to leave at 4:30 pm to carpool at the # 1 in order to make a 7 pm game ( prior to Port Mann rebuild - then for 3 years I am dinged the toll. So Dondo I know how you feel but there were "many" of us that have done this for 10-12 years.

kudos Swando for you to come in for games with that kind of commute. I just will not be doing it the other way. I suspect Toigo has a future Surrey plan, ideally near a skytrain station, but that is still five years down the road. To be honest - Toigo selling the Giants to the Canucks makes the most sense. They have the arena and the infrastructure and it's clear Toigo is becoming senile and has lost all perspective, all perspective. He is incapable of making smart business decisions, esp for this team, any longer and needs to step back from his meddling.

The game simply doesn't entertain me enough to make any sort of effort to commute. I mean you couldn't stop me from going to a game or watching online 9 years ago. But now? The game is so different. Less intense, less physical, so vanilla. Boring, bland, soft, whatever you want to call it. That is the direction this sport has decided to take for various reasons. Maybe some still enjoy that. I certainly don't. It isn't real hockey as far as I'm concerned. And quite frankly my definition of real hockey doesn't exist anymore. Thus, my type is a dying breed. In another few years I probably won't be watching any hockey whatsoever. Youu could argue that trend has already started. I still watch the games now but not with that same focus and passion. I think it's a shame but it seems the new aged hockey fan falsely believes the game is better than ever. That is beyond laughable but the NHL will take it. And laugh their way to the bank. I actually feel bad for the modern day fan. They really have no clue what good hockey is.

I'm guessing your mid 40s like me? My thoughts are the same. I watch less and less hockey every year. I use to follow hockey so closely.
