    Default Just Checking

I keep checking the playoff match-ups and wonder why the Giants aren't listed. A couple years ago I thought they were making noise of going for the Mem Cup this year?

To anyone that gave up their season tix or as a regular attender just didn't bother going to a game:
Was it because the rink is 48 years old?
Was it because the parking just doesn't work for you?
Was it because the Giants are just such a well run organization but the combination of the building, parking and location that kept you from either buying a tix or renewing your season tix?

With their attendance numbers reported at an average of 5169/game versus the FOI request from the PNE showing an average 3332/game from the gate do you think the difference in averages is tickets sold? Toigo says his # is tickets sold. I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt if he said tix in circulation because you know they have a healthy number of free tix for some nights like Read till ya drop nights, or Pink Shirt. It seems that it is a bit of an issue across the league. It borders on fraud to the leagues numbers attendance. It certainly is insulting to any fan at the game who has a hard time finding a couple thousand people supposedly there with them. The league should clearly define their "attendance #" policy, call it what it really is, and they should consider dropping it from their game report stats.

With the GM and Coach gone does that give them a free pass to the bottom of the league again?

I wonder if they would consider moving to the other Langley?

Was it because the rink is 48 years old? No, I like the nostalgia of the rink, I love that place!
Was it because the parking just doesn't work for you? Nope, parking is fine, I bought parking with my season tix, easy peasy.

I gave up my tix because the product sucks, not because of the Giants losing, but the league product is not the same as when I first bought my tix. It sucks, there's limited body contact, the league is caving in to the PC crowd, there's no passion or heated rivals. I hate pink ice, pink shirt, anything pink night!

Toigo and the Dub caved in to the soccer Mom crowd and they are stuck with anti bullying flash mobs and read to succeed nights. It used to be a working class mans game, now its pussified hockey played by pussified players and they can have it.

I gave this team my nheart and soul and massive amounts of $$, the passion is gone... They made their bed, now see how the PC crowd and soccer Moms support you!

Basically this. And this applies for all hockey, not just the WHL. The WHL was actually a bit late to the party in that sense. It really started with the NHL becoming a joke and a soft ass, wimpy league. But the trickle down effect eventually took over and now the WHL is basically on par. It's still slightly more entertaining than the NHL but not by much. And certainly not enough to justify paying to watch. The time and commune alone isn't worth it never mind actual dollar amounts. And since this is not just a temporary change it's a permanent one which will only progress even further I'm certain I won't be watching any hockey in the soon to be future. I don't know how anybody (with a straight face) can say they enjoy the product now just as much (or more) than they did 10 years ago. If you can I honestly think you are delusional. It has nothing to do with winning and losing. It has everything to do with entertainment. It used to be there, it isn't now. Euro hockey is trash, IMO. Modern day hockey is basically now Euro hockey.

Was it because the rink is 48 years old? No. The rink is great! The Giants have my support as long as they stay there. Moving to Langley, means the end for me.
Was it because the parking just doesn't work for you? Lots of parking. Never a problem. I hear that lack of parking may be an issue if they move to Langley.
Was it because the Giants are just such a well run organization but the combination of the building, parking and location that kept you from either buying a tix or renewing your season tix? Giants, unfortunately, have not been a well run organization for a number of years. The fact that they are even considering a move from Vancouver just adds to their growing list of mismanagement. How many coaches have they had recently? They want to hire a coach/gm (Johnston) that violated league rules. They seem to have no loyalty to their Vancouver fans. Reminds me very much of the Vancouver Grizzlies. Despite all this, I consider myself one of their biggest fans. The only thing that changes this is a move to Memphis (Langley).

Odd questions: sounds like it's coming from an inside marketing manager with little or no clue as to why the fans left in droves - heavily slanted toward an agenda they are trying to forward.

It had nothing to do with the building, or the parking or the access, or the location -- It had to do with a team that couldn't develop talent, can't draft and are in complete denial of how far they have fallen and refuse to make any real solid changes to alter those deficiencies.. The product, the hunger and level of talent on the ice has been too bad for too long and we have a team who refuses to deal from strength. A franchise that drags it heels for every major decision and an owner who has lost complete touch with the league, the team and the fans. We have a franchise that takes months to hire a coach and now we have the same garbage with the lack of movement on a GM. I see very little light at the end of a long dark tunnel. It saddens me. We are in a large market which should have people beating down our doors and we have players who refuse to come here. If that's not a testament to how poorly this franchise is viewed around the league I don't know what is.
