Just wondering who here has cancelled season tickets & how long were you a STH.geertsen vs kanzig.jpg
I cancelled last season and had two from the beginning. (My account history says otherwise because I tried sharing with someone else one season - we used his pair because of his location [back when moving locations was a lot more of a challenge if you wanted to move] I still picked up more than 60% of the games.
Dondo and I did not renew. I recall getting a 10 game pack pair in 2004 with a bunch of friends, then splitting a pair of full season seats between three of us in 2005, then one guy dropped out and I was down to the two of us ever since.
The decision to walk was pretty easy. The Coliseum was convenient; Langley is not. With jackass ownership/management operating the team and a pussified league overall, there was zero reason to renew.
The only good thunderstick is one shoved up a cowbell.
So what I get from that is that you guys would have renewed, regardless of the ownership/management situation & regardless of the pussified state of the game. But because they moved to Langley is the reason you cancelled. Sounds like the decision was made for you.
I do know a few who are making the trek out to Langley for the upcoming season. I guess some aren't afraid to venture out of the city to see the team they've supported for years.
Though, most aren't renewing it'll be refreshing to see games in a full barn. I love the Coliseum & wished they would have stayed there for a few reasons but there were just too many nights in the last 3 years that our row was empty & it will be a better fan & player experience to have a full house & a five minute commute won't hurt either.
Is that comtempt I detect in your post?
It's a pretty simple concept. This is entertainment. The equation is cost-benefit. As long as the benefit (entertainment) is greater than the cost ($, time, effort) then it is worth it. Years ago the benefit was way more than the cost. Over the past few years, the entertainment value has declined steadily. The past two years have been on the edge. The move to Lanlgey swung the equation too far.
So is there some "code" requiring loyalty? Do I owe Toigo several years of loyalty now because of the good years in the past? I can live with losing seasons. I can't forgive several years of mismanagement. Ron Toigo has not earned my unconditional loyalty. He has sucked it dry. I'm not going to add a rush hour commute to Langley 30 times a year for the privilege of giving Toigo more of my money.

Gave up my season tickets last year after becoming a STH in the 2003/2004 season. Complete and total mis-management convinced me last season was going to be a disaster. I went to two games, Red Deer and one against Kamloops - both loses by a completely dysfunctional team. And ownership has still learned nothing from it. Other then the change of GM the entire mis-management team is still in place. They don't even have a head coach yet, so all indications at this point are that next season will be just as bad and possibly worse. Thinking that a move of venue is going to save a bad product is a fools dream. This team, as it stands, won't survive in Langley for more than two or three seasons. Then it will be sold and packed off to some other city that thinks they can make it work.
Had I maintained my STH would I have moved with them to Langley? Nope. I live in Burnaby and I don't have my own vehicle. I live right by the ALRT line in Metrotown and rely solely on transit to get around. The PC wasn't great but was at least do-able.
I don't believe the team will be on the move in a couple of years. Moving out to Langley isn't the beginning of the end but a fresh start & a money saver after many years of huge dollar losses. Langley is one of the fastest growing regions in the GVRD so they won't have any problems filling the rink.
you keep believing that GF -- the Giants have lost fully 50% of their seasons tickets holders (once well over 6K and now sadly around 4K - before the recent exodus, which starts them under 2K). Will they make that up if the product continues to suck for a few years? (remember Chilliwack?) They have bought themselves, possibly, 2 years grace, but if the mismanagement continues then they will be losing Langley supporters just as quickly. I admit I am quite bitter with the way all of this was handled, included, but not limited to how they have ham-handedly gone about hiring a GM and potentially a future coach. There is a distinct lack of respect and/or regard for loyal seasons ticket holders who have spent the last 6 years six suffering under this regime. They have not only not acknowledged the loyalty, but have actively insulted their loyal fan-base - a lot of which have been STHs since the very beginning.
The main reason for scrunt and I maintaining our seasons tickets the past couple of years had a bit to do with the actual seats in which we sit, but mostly to do with a regular event for us to participate in together - (an event that was once very entertaining hockey - however; too many games this season were painfully boring to sit through). The level and quality of hockey and entertainment has been plummeting for years ( basically since 2008) and as others who shed their seasons tickets last year after years of mediocrity and no real hope for a competitive and entertaining team have shown - they have not missed being at most every home game and many have surprisingly not missed it at all. I hope I am not of that tribe as losing the Gs has hurt a bit for me but if the quality of competitive hockey continues to decline then they will lose more than a few loyal fans. They will lose their franchise.
I still maintain that Toigo has lost all perspective. I hope that Hanlon will be allowed to make decisions unhindered, but I doubt that will be true. I suspect we might have better euro scouting due to Hanlon's background, but what kind of coach are we going to get? Why did it take so long to make any of these decisions and most importantly -- why the f*ck does Ripplinger still have a job???? He has been a complete and utter failure in every single aspect of which his job description entails. While we're at it -- Svejkovsy must go -- our level of skill for players has been hindered and hampered and not developed. Why continue to keep a "skills" coach that makes players with potential worse as their years go by while playing for the franchise.
Even seasons ticket holders who live across the Port Mann are electing to give up their seasons tickets. If that isn't indicative of the direction the franchise is falling I don't know what is. This past season was probably the worst ever. Not just in win/loss, but mainly in quality of hockey and level of compete

Ain't gonna happen. The team just drafted his kid... all 5'2" 110 lbs of him... 2nd rounder. Dreaming of Brendan Gallagher 2.0.
