Default Blades acquire D-man Jackson Caller from Portland for a 4th in 2018

Looking at his stats on eliteprospects, he seems capable of putting up points. Hopefully he'll pan out.

The Saskatoon Blades made another transaction Monday, acquiring ’99 born defensemen Jackson Caller from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

Caller suited up for 8 games with the Winterhawks last season and registered one assist as a 16 year old. Originally from Kamloops, Caller adds size and depth to the Blades back end. Standing at 6’2″, Caller is described as a patient, smart, and composed player with excellent puck skill and vision.

“Jackson has the ability to push the pace, he has great feet and we think he’ll be a nice addition to our back end,” said Blades Associate General Manager, Steve Hildebrand.

Jackson Caller will arrive in Saskatoon this week and join the Blades for practice on Wednesday.

I have never seen Caller play .. but as a rebuilding team the Blades sure throw a lot of picks around. With no 3rd , 4th and 6th picks already this draft , and no extra picks in any rounds. Also next draft the same 3rd , 4th and 6th round picks are gone. I understand they are trying to speed up a rebuild by a couple years. It will be interesting to see if it works or not.

They have two first rounders in 2017 draft. Their own and Victoria's from the Forsberg deal

I think that Priestner has done a pretty decent job. Sometimes he likes the sound of his voice a little to much. They gotta quite making moves now and let it play out. Big question mark is still the goaltending. Even with the acquisition of Flodell I would still say it's a little suspect. With a young defence in front goaltenders are gonna have to steal a few games. East division will be stronger than I originally envisioned. It will be a dog fight.
