Another Season

Another Hurricane season is upon us. There wasn't much on this forum after the Burke fiasco last year. With Wonger gone I am curious to see who will step up and fill his shoes. Sept 1 we will see the boys in action against the Hat that will give us some idea of who came to play.

Is Estephan or Babenko returning ? If not, I would say we will be a middle of the pack team at best. Or, Pete could shake it up again and work his magic.

Babenko was signed in Russia and as far as i Know Giorgio will be back. Menall may also be back. Pete will shake things up as there are a lot of 20yrolds available this year. I believe we will be above the middle of the pack as the Canes have some good rookies coming on board and Kiso can get the best out of them

This site has pretty much dried up for Canes fans. Pat S's blog comments are also non existent lately. So we Canes fans can have our own chat space, let's post here again. Most of us post to WHL54 site and that is OK, but let us try to get this site going for Canes news.

We need Bo and Shu and even Moon to come back and talk Canes ****.

I held out a long time hoping things would get better but now I am at the point it just isn't worth caring about the Hurricanes anymore. I can still take my kids up to Calgary to Flames games to help build their passion for the sport but it's just too hard to continually get kicked in the mouth by ineptitude of this organization.

Hope everyone else enjoys it because the WHL is an awesome league to support and when the team was run well it was a blast going to the games. I am sure most will be happy to not have to read my angry rants anymore.

I, for one, enjoy having you around, Moon!! Even though I don't always agree with you, that's kind of the idea of these types of forums....to get discussion going.

I, however, still struggle with your apparent hate for this organization. While I will agree that ineptness was the word de jour for many years with this bunch, but why the hate now? How would getting out of a $1M hole, or going almost to the Eastern final be "ineptitude"? How does having a board that lets management actually make good, productive hockey decisions mean "ineptitude"? How does having a GM, that by all measurement standards is wildly successful, constitute "ineptitude"? How does having a coach that inspires maybe less than "wildly talented" players to play arguably above their pay grade, and meanwhile be selected as the Ivan Helenka coach be considered "ineptitude"?

I, like you Moon, absolutely love junior hockey. These kids play, and play hard. It is not always perfect hockey, but it is damn fun to watch. With all of the stuff from the past, it is frankly refreshing to have a team like the Hurricanes perform well both on the ice, and in the boardroom. I just hope that you, Moon, and the other "Hurricane haters" out there can forget the past and embrace this group; players, management, and board, for the good things they have managed to give us the past few years.

I just took a quick look at the Canes rookie roster and 1 name stood out like a sore thumb. DYLAN COZENS. I guess he is still a rookie but after last years playoffs, he seems like a veteran player to me! Can't wait to see what he does over an entire 72 game schedule. Is he for real or was his amazing play in last years playoffs a one off?

I know it is early on in training camp so stats and results are often misleading. What I have noticed on the score sheet the last few days is how many goals the new big Russian kid, #9 Egor Zudilov, has scored. Probably more than anyone else in camp.

I'm going to guess that he's the real deal. If he can make things happen in the playoffs, he can make things happen in the regular season, considering there is more time and space.
