Unrelated but just read in SI (from Drinnan’s blog) in an article about the OHL icedogs recruiting that in the OHL 1st round draft players get 4years tuition and books as soon as they play one game. Later drafts get a year tuition and books for each year played. Does anyone know if it is the same in the dub?

Same in the Dub - Canadian players are eligible for Canadian Universities & Colleges and American players are eligible for the equivalent to the cost at their state school. I don't know about 1st round draft picks but you should expect the same would follow to the rest of the CHL.

As I understand it, SOME players can be guaranteed 4 years of tuition by the WHL team that they sign with, but I think it depends on how high of a profile they are, and/or how tough the negotiation is. I also get the impression that it happens a lot more now than it did ten years ago.

    Default Raiders Win WHL Championship

Congratulations to the PA Raiders for winning the WHL Championship. Overtime in game 7 wow…Hannoun must be on top of the world now. Many thought Vancouver would be an easy out but they weren't whatsoever. Any time you are in a game 7 and it's on OT, it's very close. PLUS Vancouver had a pp in the OT. The Giants battled.

Now the Raiders can join the Broncos, as being back to back WHL Champions from the East Division.

Curtis Hunt has done a great job with the Raiders. He built them from darn near the ground up. Smart trades, moves, along with good veteran coaching was the Key to winning.

I think you used a dart board for your predictions. How can you possibly predict rosters , trades, returning 20 yr olds, and import draft additions now in May? Nice try though.

Great post...I don't think P.A. will finish second. I would guess 3rd or 4th as we are losing alot of talent. We have lots of good talent coming in but will be young. Will be interesting to see when the dust settles how close your predictions were...

Default Pats sign Feist and Rowan

It's good news for the Pats that they have been able to sign Layton Feist and Zane Rowan so early in the process. Feist is supposedly highly skilled now they just need to hope he can grow to size similar to his brother. It was particularly good to get Rowan signed. Being an American kid taken in the 3rd round is good news for the Pats. They haven't actually done too well with other higher round USA picks. Lets hope Huck and Whitehead aren't far behind.

Now it will be potential hockey trades as well as the upcoming Import Draft. I expect the Pats will participate in the Import Draft and pick a very high first round player. That will of course mean moving one of our current Imports, and I would anticipate a substantial return.

Now it's just wait and watch until August.

Still interested to see what the Pats do in the import draft - do they try to upgrade at 1 position or stand pat?
