Thread: Raiders vs Oil Kings

    Default Raiders vs Oil Kings

With the Blades being put to rest (good riddance), next up is the Edmonton Oil Kings. I'm not going to go out on any limbs but the Blades were at least as good as the Oil Kings, IMO. I know EOKs beat out Calgary pretty handily but when you look at the PA vs Hitmen games it should be expected.
Have to think the Edmonton goes as far as TFW can carry them. Looks like they have depth similar to what the Blades brought to the table. No Nachbauer for game 1, and then there's Fonstad. I know he hasn't put up a lot of points but he can still generate scoring chances with his great puck control.
    Is it Friday yet?

We all know that if Fonstad gets going he is one of our better forwards. It hurts the teams depth when he is out of the lineup. Moe has to move up a line and that's not a great thing

Wasn't really a lot of room out there in game 1. And a lot of fumbling of the puck. Not sure if that was an ice issue or nerves. Fonstad back for game 1 and Nachbaur coming back for game 2 does bode well for the Raiders rolling 3 lines and giving the 4th line some spot duty. Edmonton didn't really seem to be too much of a threat in game 1 other than a few isolated instances. Hopefully less fumbling of the puck in game 2 and a cleaner passing game leads to more chances for the Raiders.

Edmonton was the better team in game 2. They are playing the way Pa usually does with speed, pressure, and physicality. Fonstad, Kelly, and Moe were terrible I thought. Fonstad in particular looks like he doesn’t even want to be out there.

Fonstad looks timid. Maybe still hurt from the first round. Raiders weren't their best after the first 10 minutes and taking 2 penalties didn't help their cause in second half of the first. Edmonton was good after going down 0-2 and their forecheck was impressive. The Raiders were a lot better in the overtime, having a few prime chances. The puck bouncing over Leason's stick with an open net was a killer. And Edmonton scores on what really was a nothing play. Goes to show just throw the puck at the net and good things happen. 1-1 series, move on and put in a better effort in Edmonton.

Fonstad is a marshmallow out there...move him down to the 4th line and put Brook in his spot....Fonstad has to be the slowest player on the ice bar none. Oil Kings hit our players as soon as they touch the puck....we like to stick check and not take the body for the most part. Leason is getting chances but is snake bitten...next game in Edmonton is going to tell alot....

Fonstad played his best game of the playoffs last night. Raiders finally started taking the body and it paid off. The Raiders stepped it up in the speed dept showing why we finished first in the league. The Hauser will be a mad house on friday!

Best game of the playoffs by PA tonight. Our best players were great, 4 points by Protas including the hattie, another shutout by Scott. They played a hard Raider game with discipline, this is what we have been waiting for.

Interesting article in the Edmonton Sun today....Oil Kings coach complaining about not getting more penalty calls against the Raiders. After game 4 this guy has the nerve to complain about officiating? The Sun even complained about the ice surface at the Hauser...how that it was built in 1971 and probably not "regulation size"...what a bunch of losers...lol Sure hope we destroy those bums on Sunday...

Yeah that is pretty weak. Go out with grace, they've played a great series so far. Teams like PA are supposed to outlast and endure. At the same time though, being fair, PA plays on the edge, so I can understand how a demand for more penalties is not totally out of line.

PA vs VAN ... gonna be a great final.
