    Default Medicine Hat Game

Last night's game against MH was a really disappointing experience from this fan's perspective and continues the trend of the previous 4 games.

    The trend:

    * The Pats come out ready to play in the first period and are usually in the game going into the first intermission. Then someone administers anesthesia or they bring in a hypnotist to put the team to sleep for the rest of the game. Last night's 3rd period official SOG of 0 is a symptom of this problem.
*The Pats are taking twice the number penalties as the opposition - nothing good ever comes of this (more below)
*The Pats are only entering the offensive zone by chipping the puck into the zone.
*Shots on goal usually come the perimeter.

Pats & Discipline - as long as I have been a member of this board & no matter who the coach was - the Pats have always been undisciplined and been in upper third of total penalty minutes - taking unnecessary penalties (Jackman had a unique ability to consistently turn 2 minute penalties into 4 minute penalties as he mouthed off on the way to the box). Some years they have had adequate PK abilities and masked the problem. After 5 games, this year the Pats are averaging half a goal(0.5) on power plays and one and a half goals(1.5) on the penalty kill. This effectively means the Pats are going into each game already down a goal.

Finally - Please Pats lose the behind the back pass - you are not skilled enough to perform this! I have not yet seen a behind the back pass be completed. The puck never goes where they intend it - going directly to the other team, accidentally clearing the zone on a power play etc.

Although its a rebuilding year, games like this PA one right now cannot go without any responses from the staff. This cant be seen as acceptable. The coaching staff can only motivate players to a certain degree; but eventually you need to realize you arent going to win the kentucky derby with a gaggle of hens.

And yeah i know theyre playing their journeyman backup and nursing some injuries...but its only going to get tougher as the season goes.

Perhaps its time to make a trade, and perhaps they should bring in a veteran to add some depth(and confidence). A 2nd round pick isnt going to sink us, especially with this first round pick from swift in the wings.

Some players we have now are likely getting too used to losing from last year to this one. And perpetual losing is toxic. Maybe a swap of a secondary asset will help open up internal competition.

I would bench both Holt and Holmes for taking penalties on the same play in the last 2 minutes of the period down 3-0 team outshot 12-1 in the 1 st period !!!!!!! The question has Struch got the balls to do it , NO , neither did Paddock . This mgmt got us in this situation trading all our draft picks and giving up and away players who have gone on to have success elsewhere , Zamula ! We have 2 yes 2 picks playing on our roster who were drafted in the first 3 WHL rounds rest are cast offs and lunch bucket brigade !

What a weekend - 3 games and outscored 15 to 2 - Is this worst year of the rebuild? Those draft (2020 Pats Round 1 and 2020 Pats Round 2) picks the Blades picked up for Kubic & Hebig are paying great dividends.

Boy o boy up 3-0 an loss 5-3. Edmonton is a good team but as soon as someone scores on them they die. Are the young players in the pipeline or do you need a change in scouting? You still need to find those diamonds in the 5-8 rounds of the draft.

Maybe they need to make a trade or bench some guys. It seems some guys we expected to step up have not done so yet.

Would also be nice to have our top round import guy(or alkhimov)...

This may be a rebuilding year but these games cant be considered acceptable. How long until management steps in?

They looked fine in that first game vs mj. Not sure what happened to them after that.

glad to see a response from management. seems he came at decent value too.

wonder who goes. It seems to me a reassignment would've been immediately announced after...which leads me to believe we have another trade coming.

Does Holmes go? I doubt it, since we need all the grit we can get. Its also not a great way to treat a guy who has put in as many games as he has.

or will it be Holt? This will not only bring paddocks theory of good playoff performance=break out season on horizon(for both he and holmes), but it would complete the failure of the alkhimov trade entirely (great to see a blurb on pats website on two highly touted players who wont play for us doing well btw).

Pratt has been our top guy, but he holds the most value and therefore could bring decent youth back too. I think we will know either later in the afternoon, or perhaps its already released on the pats twitter or something.

    *******************************

    EDIT: https://leaderpost.com/sports/hockey...year-old-trade

Harder "suggests" that Holt will be put on waivers before Thursday. It could end up being a mistake if he reaches midseason form somewhere else, but considering the position we are in, what else can be done?

Im not sure if that's how the pats feel. Maybe they make a trade or something, especially since they now also have a glut of defenceman.
