WK lose 3-2 to PA at home. Season over no playoffs. Not used to missing the playoffs. This year’s team just did not have enough good players to compete on a daily basis. The future does look better but I am not gettting real excited until some obvious deficiencies in the lineup are addressed. Team’s drafting needs to improve as there have been some real misses the past 4 years. The import situation needs to be improved as well. What really needs to happen is Danielson needs some support in the lineup. All their players need to improve for next year as it looks like no real high end guys in the lineup other than Danielson. Even Bjarnson’s play since Xmas has not been as good as before. Long story short this team lacks talent and that explains why we missed the playoffs. Compared to Saskatoon,MJ, WPG,and even Regina we don’t stack up talent wise.

Well, that was a very underachieving season. The WK Brass has a lot of soul searching to do this off season. Cause honestly the future doesn't feel real bright right now. There needs to be some major changes or hope their next round of prospects is better than there last. They need to do better with there import picks. I like to watch fighting as much as the next guy but when you are putting a guy that can only fight in the lineup every night that should tell you something. This team has been crazy frustrating since KM left. I hope MM can turn this around.

The players drafted in the Prospects draft have not come through for the team, Other than Danielson what top end guy has the team drafted even though twice we have had 3 picks in the first round? Armstrong made a couple of good trades to get 3 picks in 2019 and 2021 but have not been able to convert (although the 2021 group may still be OK because it’s too early to tell.) Moulton was in charge of the 21 and 22 drafts so will cut him some slack. Are the braintrust not listening to Mark Johnston or is he losing it. The import draft is another story where the team has really failed. This really needs to im

Looks like the WK pick 5 or 6 in the Prospect draft so Jaxon Jacobson would likely be their pick. They also pick at 19 and probably should pick a d-man but best player available would be a good plan to follow. They have an early 2nd round pick as well. With Bjarnson as the #1goalie trading Jones to get back a top prospect pick or player would make sense as Eskit would be the backup goalie. I would try to draft two imports to see if we can improve on Malyavin. I would keep Hyland and Sandra-Kang,Hammett,or Pasternak as OA ers depending on what your import picks are.

I know Jones is only 17 but honestly, he was not very good this year for the most part. Not sure there's much value there. Bjarnson was not good after Xmas either. Not sure what changed with him but I'm thinking he hurt his Draft Stock. Still think Hes a good goalie but it was concerning.

OA's next season will be Hyland, Pasternak, and Sadhra-Kang.

Wheat Kings' season was finished once Hyland had his season-ending injury. He was their best player overall this season...brought consistent offence, and was solid defensively.

Pasternak had 22 points in 27 games. I would expect him to put up some nice numbers during a full season with Danielson and Hyland.

Sadhra-Kang is a defense-first blueliner, and Wheat Kings desperately need that.

Eskit is too good a prospect to not be in the Wheat King line-up next season, so no choice but to attempt to move Jones. Some team will likely pay a mid-round pick for him, as he was such a good prospect leading up to this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him regain the form he showed in midget...where ever he plays next season.

    Blueline next season:

    -Mantei (18)
    -Sadhra-Kang (20)
    -Shipley (19)
    -Elick (17)
    -Mannix (17)

I'm honestly not sure as to whether Turner or Malyavin are back next year. Turner has never had an opportunity to get much ice time, and how do you keep Malyavin as a 19-year old on the 3rd pairing? I didn't like his play early in the year, when he was putting up some offense, but his defense was non-existent. His last 12 games he went 1-6-7 +8, which was pretty decent compared to some of his teammates.

I suspect Bjarnason had a sore back from carrying this team for pretty much the entire season. I expect him to be back to his dominating self next September.

Great post. Two picks in the 1st round of the draft. Hope we hit a couple of home runs. I think they give Turner a chance early as well as Mannix. Still not sure about this team next year, but a trade or two and a much better import draft might change my mind. Here’s hoping. We pick Jacobsen’s kid 5th methinks. Executive decision.

Watching Regina-Saskatoon playoff game 2 and all I can say is that the WK ever drop the ball with their imports compared to Sidorov, Svovsil, and Studzelev. Really high end talents. Where were ours? No where close to the ones I mentioned. This is certainly one of the reasons for the team’s underwhelming season. Also many of the teams last few years higher draft choices have not panned out. e.g. Zimmer,Trembecky, Johnson, Groening ( not yet anyways), and even Roersma who was a first rounder and was very inconsistent this year.

I think we will see better results out of Moultons Drafts. They look better already. Ritchies picks were terrible. But yes they need to swing for the fences with there import picks. Enough with the safe picks. You might as well play your young prospects then to bring in average imports.
