The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings trimmed their roster to 27 players Monday night in preparation for Friday's Coca Cola Home Opener against the visiting Regina Pats.

Wheat Kings' coach / general manager Kelly McCrimmon announced that 16-year old defenceman Derek Robinson has been assigned to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Winnipeg Saints.

Robinson's assignment comes three days after the Wheat Kings elected to send 17-year old center Jeff Young, a Red Deer product, to Drumheller of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

A 6'2" 180 lb. Winnipeg native, Robinson played in three exhibition games for the Wheat Kings this year, collecting no points and four minutes in penalties.

A second round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2004 WHL bantam draft, Robinson spent the 2004-05 campaign with the Winnipeg AAA midget Thrashers.

Monday's move leaves the Wheat Kings with 27 players on their roster including nine defenceman, two of which - 16-year old Keith Aulie and 17-yearold Chad Erb - are rookies. Brandon is also carrying three goalkeepers and fifteen forwards.
