Hodge confirms bid for Hawks

Portland Winter Hawks president and general manager Ken Hodge confirmed Thursday that he is in negotiations to sell the Western Hockey League team.
"The process is ongoing," Hodge said, adding that a purchase agreement and any related contracts and business plans could be presented to the league's board of governors by Feb. 6. Any deal is subject to approval by the team's shareholders and the league.
The Hawks, a major junior hockey franchise , has been the target of offers before. As recently as 2004, a deal with a Minnesota-based sports investment looked imminent, only to fall through.
Hodge said he would not identify the group he's dealing with now with because of a confidentiality stipulation in the negotiations. He added that there are no plans to move the team, which has been in Portland for 30 seasons.
"The group is committed to the Portland area, the league is committed to the Portland area," Hodge said. "There is no discussion on movement of the Portland Winter Hawks out of the Portland area." -- Molly Blue %%endby%%
