Brandon, Manitoba – The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings will be without 19-year old left-winger Corey Courchene for the balance of the 2005-06 season.
The 6’1” 203 lb product from Sagkeeng First Nation sustained a fractured fibula in his right leg during Saturday’s come from behind victory over the visiting Saskatoon Blades at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre.
A former member of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Southeast Blades, Courchene underwent successful surgery at Health Sciences Centre on Sunday and is expected to be in hospital until Wednesday.
In 56 games with the Wheat Kings this season, Courchene had eleven goals and 24 points. As well, he has accumulated 150 minutes in penalties.
During his three year WHL career, Courchene has eighteen goals, 45 points and 358 penalty minutes in 173 games.
Honestly that was probably the last time we will see Courchene in a Wheatie jersey.
