OHL to use video goal judge in the playoffs
    Created: Mar 22, 2006

The Ontario Hockey League today announced that a video goal judge will be utilized to review all goals during the 2006 OHL Playoffs.

The video goal judge will view all available television broadcasts from the league's head office in Scarborough. In the case of non-televised games, a league-appointed on-site video goal judge will utilize any and all in-arena camera feeds available.

Video review of goals will be available in the following situations:

    1. Puck crossing the goal line.

    2. Puck in the net prior to the goal frame being dislodged.

    3. Puck in the net prior to, or after expiration of time at the end of the period or game.

    4. Puck kicked into the net by a foot or directed in by other means.

    5. Puck deflected into the net off an official.

    6. Puck struck with a high stick, above the height of the crossbar, by an attacking player prior to entering the net.

The opening round of the 2006 OHL Playoffs begins on Thursday in three centres. Complete OHL playoff schedules and results are available online at www.ontariohockeyleague.com.

I've never seen a puck deflected into the goal off of an official before. What happens if that occurs? Does the goal stand?

    from the WHL rulebook (whl.ca)
    Rule 82. Puck Striking Official

    (a) Play shall not be stopped if the puck touches an Official anywhere on the rink, regardless of whether a Team is shorthanded or not. A puck that deflects back into the defensive zone off an Official who is in the neutral zone, will be deemed to be off-side as per Rule 74 - Off-Sides.

    (b) When a puck deflects off an Official and goes out of play, the ensuing face-off will take place at the spot where the puck deflected off the Official.

(NOTE) If a goal is scored as a result of being deflected directly into the net off an Official, the goal shall not be allowed.
    Hope this answers your questions.

    Default Thanks for That

I always thought the officials were part of the play, kinda like the boards. Thanks for the post.
