Hockey Canada Calls: Last Wednesday Hockey Canada announced that Regina Pats defencemen Logan Pyett & Craig Schira have been named to Team Canada for the upcoming 2006 IIHF World Under 18 Championship to be played in Ängelholm and Halmstad, Sweden, April 12th – 22nd ... Pyett, a seventeen-year-old from Balgonie SK, led all Pats defencemen in scoring with ten goals and thirty-five assists in seventy-one regular season games ... The U-18 Championships will be Pyett’s third international tournament, having won gold medals with Team West at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2005, as well as the U-18 Junior World Cup last summer in the Czech Republic & Slovakia ... Schira, a seventeen-year-old from Spiritwood SK, had five goals & twenty-eight assists in seventy-one regular season games, and was named the Pats Unsung Hero this past season ... Schira was also a member of Team West that captured Gold at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Lethbridge in January 2005 ... Greg Gilbert of the OHL’s Mississauga Ice Dogs will serve as the Head Coach of Canada’s U-18 team, while Kirk Muller of Queen’s University & Guy Boucher of Rimouski (QMJHL) will serve as Assistant Coaches ... Canada’s team is made up players that have been eliminated or not participating in their club team playoffs ... The team left from Toronto last Friday for Sweden and will have a four-day camp including two pre-competition games prior to its first game of the Championship on April 12th versus Slovakia ... Canada will play in Group B along with Slovakia, Finland, Norway and the host team, Sweden.

Harding In The Record Books: Last Tuesday former Pat & WHL Player of the Year Josh Harding became the first NHL goaltender to win his first career start in a shootout when the Minnesota Wild defeated St. Louis 5 - 4 ...Harding made twenty-two saves in the game, including five in overtime and stopped two shooters in the shootout ...
