    Default Broncos First Pick

They take Cody Eakin, a center from Winnipeg.

    Courtesey the ISS
An offensively talented player. Has very good puck skills, patience and vision. Makes things happen when he has the puck. A great playmaker. A solid consistent year and has developed as one of the top offensive players in the draft. Continued to improve his draft stock with a strong performance at recent Directors Cup, finishing with 6 goals and 12 points in just 4 games playing for the Winnipeg AAA Red. Will be a solid offensive contributor at the next level.

    Broncos Pick Eakin 6th Overall
    ..
The Swift Current Broncos announced on Thursday morning that they have selected center Codey Eakin with their 1st round, 6th overall selection in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft.
Eakin, a 5'10" 165lbs forward, spent last season with the Winnipeg Monarchs (Bantam AAA) where he led the league with 34 goals in 29 games and was 5th in league scoring with 59 points. He also had 48 penalty minutes with the Monarchs last season.

"We felt Codey might have been the best skater in this year's group of forwards," commented Broncos Assistant General Manager/Director of Player Personnel Elden Moberg. "He is an explosive player with good speed, excellent skills, and a good work ethic that could be a dynamic player in our league."

Codey's father, Grant, was a member of the Lethbridge Broncos from 1975-77.
