CHL and QMJHL announce 2006 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge roster
La LCH et la LHJMQ annoncent la sélection des joueurs et le personnel d'entraîneurs en vue du Défi ADT Canada-Russie 2006
BOUCHERVILLE - The Rouyn-Norada Huskies and the Val-d'Or Foreurs organizations, in collaboration with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the CHL, today announced at simultaneously held press conferences, the composition of the team and the coaching staff that will lead Team QMJHL against a delegation of Russian All-Stars in the 2006 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.
Lewiston MAINEiacs bench boss Clément Jodoin is back for a second stint behind the QMJHL bench. His assistants will be head coach & GM André Tourigny of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies as well as head coach Eric Lavigne of the Val-d'Or Foreurs.
"This event represents a great opportunity for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to showcase its talent. Also, it's an opportunity for me to work closely with Hockey Canada towards the selection process of the next national junior team," declared Clément Jodoin, who will be an assistant coach on team Canada's coaching squad at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship in Sweden.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will host the first game of the series, on Monday, November 20, at the Dave Keon Arena. The second game will take place the following night at the Air Creebec Centre in Val-d'Or. Then, the Russian delegation heads west where it will play two games against the OHL stars (Sarnia and Oshawa), followed by two games against the WHL stars (Chilliwack and Kamloops).
All six contests will be televised nation-wide on Rogers Sportsnet. RDS will broadcast both games in QMJHL markets.
The ADT Canada-Russia Challenge will play a very important role in the selection process of Canada's World Junior Hockey Championship roster as well as the Under-18 roster. As such, each of the three CHL member leagues created a scouting team which worked closely with Hockey Canada's Chief Scout, Jim Hammet, to select the players who would participate in the Challenge. The QMJHL selection committee was comprised of Jacques Blouin, General Manager of the Shawinigan Cataractes, Réal Paiement, General Manager and Head Coach of the St. John's Fog Devils, Clément Jodoin, General Manager and Head Coach of the Lewiston MAINEiacs, and Raymond Bolduc, Director of Hockey Operations at the QMJHL.
"The team is fairly young this year, but in the short term, we believe that several of them will have a shot at making the roster of Canada's national junior team," mentioned Raymond Bolduc.
Twenty-seven players will participate in the two-game event to enable a larger number of players to be evaluated. Head Coach Clément Jodoin will announce the starters for each game at a later date.
