    Default Mike Winther

We don't have much to celebrate this season but Mike Winther is certainly an exception. Quietly, in a workman like way, he has fashioned a very, very excellent season for himself. 54 points in 64 games is extremely good for a 17 year old and very likely positions him to be drafted in the first half of the first round of the NHL draft this June. Well done Mike!

    Agreed...but I think he'll go between 25 and 35.

Danyluk has also developed well in a very short time (same points in 10 fewer games than last year) but the mid-body injury for 20 games and third-line minutes for much of the time since then will probably preclude his selection in the NHL draft.

    Definition of bad-luck.

    Go, Mike!

Good luck at the NHL combine!

So Winther's ranking WAS misreported last week on PA radio as 10th in the WHL (the article LISTED him 10th in the WHL but it was arranged ALPHABETICALLY, not by projected rank...the same article had Yakupov listed 10th in the OHL, again alphabetically).

As of this morning's official rankings, Mike is 7th in the WHL, only one forward...Sissons...is ranked higher (6th) from the W.

At 21st overall (in North America), Mike has moved up 5 rankings from 26th in January.

He's looking more and more like a first round lock.

Here's hoping Mike goes in the high 20s or 30th overall...

Based only on finishing in the this year's regular season (barring traded picks), drafting in June should go:

    21 - Chicago
    22 - Jersey
    23 - Detroit
    24 - Boston
    25 - Philadelphia
    26 - Nashville
    27 - Pittsburgh
    28 - St. Louis
    29 - Rangers
    30 - Vancouver

Hope you have a great tournament at the U18s and an excellent NHL Combine!

    Go, Mike, go!

The play-by-play blog (and the game summary on the u18 website) failed to mention that one but sure enough, the stats summary on the IIHF site lists it.

Looks like Mike was on the ice for at least 2 of the other goals (he was +3 for the game).
